Payment

Hi. Why do I need to pay for landline when I don't use it?? It's an extra £18.99 that I can not afford.

What does your bill show you're paying for?

If it's a call package, you don't need to be paying - just cancel the call package.

Re: Payment

I have Sky Broadband Unlimited and Sky Talk Line Rental, but I've never used Sky Talk

@Emese25 while it's specified separately in your bill, it's part of the overall price for your Sky Broadband and Talk package. If you were to cancel Sky Talk, you would also be cancelling Sky Broadband and vice versa.

@Emese25 I think it's a bit of a left over from 'the old days' before broadband. You had a telephone line then for which you paid rental with call charges on top. Broadband is still delivered via the same phone line (unless you have full fibre) whether you use the phone or not, so the line rental charge still applies, presumably to cover the cost to Openreach of repairing and maintaining the line.

@Emese25

As @Mark39 indicates, online advice to 'save money by cancelling an unused landline' is almost always erroneous because circuit rental is required to deliver terrestrial broadband.  The thing to check is that there isn't an unused inclusive voice call bundle attached to the broadband subscription.
