Hi all
I have read various comments on various forums regarding the use of existing phones with the sky router post moving to FTTP.
I have the FTTP connected to an SR203, and as above from various forums, there are statements that state that original 'analog' phones, will work with the fibre and the SR203 once the phone has been plugged into the socket that has a handset symbol and says UK under it, the 431A socket.
However when plugging in the phone, it jsut says 'CHeck Phone line' on the handset,. therefore can anyone categorically confirm whether older phones, i.e those that ran over the old network via the BT master socket are compatible ?
The fact that it didnt work aligned with my expectation that I would need to buy a VOIP phone, however this doesnt seem to align with numerous sites/forums where they state that existing phones would work.
Any thoughts... Thanks all.

Most reasonably recent analogue phones should work. Some older analogue phones may not.
Of course, your phone may not be working because of a fault. Is the 'Voice' LED on the front panel of your Hub illuminated green?

@Mark39 Hi, thanks for response, should the Green Voice LED be lit, irrespective of whether there is a phone plugged in or not ? As whether I have the phone plugged into the 203 or not, the led is not lit.
Interestingly, when speaking to SKY prior to the fibre upgrade, and the Openreach engineer when he was doing the install, both told me that I would need a VOIP phone....
🤔🤔
Thanks

So, I came down this morning and saw the voice led lit on the router.... plugged in current phone and it works.
I can only assume that it took 24 hours for the phone line to be cutover for some reason post the installation of the fibre....

Good to hear you're up and running now.
Yes, from previous posts we've seen it's not uncommon for engineers to incorrectly tell customers that they need a VOIP phone. You'd think they would know, but apparently not....

If that were true, every household in the UK would have to replace all its telephone handsets over the next couple of years prior to PSTN switch off. I'm reasonably certain the regulator would say that's an unreasonable expectation for the industry to put on its customers, which is why all current ISP routers are equipped to do the conversion.

Fair shout, however as you can probably tell I was not familiar with the compatability of existing phones with Fibre and the associated operability, hence I was kind of relying on those who I assumed, and there is the problem.. 🙂 knew better. i.e Sky technical support and the Openreach installer.
Thanks all.
