My phone number on sky talk is wrong
Hi I've been trying for months to get this fixed and seem unable to penetrate Sky communications to seek a solution. We changed to sky broadband with talk last year and hadn't realised for some time our landline number had not been transferred . The phone works but has a different number which is no use to the several hundred people who have our number which has same for a long time. How can I actually talk or communicate this effectively?

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
You had to have requested the number be retained at the time of ordering although it's not always possible. The previous number will have dropped into a pot now to be reissued in due course.
I think it's very unlikely you can get that number back.

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
Thanks for taking the time to reply but not the answer I really wanted! How can you get to talk to someone in sky about it? Any idea, thanks

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
Sky are very unlikely to be able to change it back (especially after so long) but to call Sky dial 150 free from your landline.

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
You can call them on 150 from your lamdline, but I'm afraid it's highly unlikely that they'll be able to retrieve your old number now. If I remember correctly numbers returned to Openreach's unassigned pool can be reallocated to another subscriber after a 3 months 'quarantine' period.

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
Last year ofcom introduced a new process to recover a ceased number but only to a limit of one month
longer than that then no provider can get your number back
as mentioned above it can only be requested at time of sale

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
I moved from EE to Sky last week. During the sales process, I asked if I could keep my existing landline number. The sales guy went away to check and then told me that I couldn't keep my number, but would be issued with another. No option!
Incidentally, if you need to check the allocated number from your landline, then dial 17070 for a recorded message.

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
Thanks . This is not good! We changed to Sky previously and they carried the number over without any special request needed , as have other suppliers when we've changed. Hence we didn't even look out for it when we changed lat year assuming the number would carryover. Due to family circumstances phones last thing on our mind for some time se we were late taking action but still find it hard to reconcile why they wouldn't think you w@nt to carry a number over.

Sky say it's usually possible to keep your number, but not always.

Re: My phone number on sky talk is wrong
Ofcom say that your new provider must allow you to port your existing number. This subject is covered in their 'changing provider / refused number porting' section on their website. They advise complaining to Ofcom and then providing your complaint reference number to your provider to enable them to start a short investigation.
