I have a dialling tone but keypad not working.

My old wireless home phone has stopped working so I've had to buy a new handset, a wired one this time. I've plugged the white cable that came with it into the modem. I get a dial tone but the keypad isn't working. The master socket has one connection, that has the grey wire in, with the purple ends. Do I need to use a micro filter? I didn't have one with the old phone.

Re: I have a dialling tone but keypad not working.

It would appear all I needed to do was reset the router at the mains, as the phone is now working.

Re: I have a dialling tone but keypad not working.

Edit: I meant the grey wire with one purple end and one white end. The white end in the main socket.
