Do I keep PSTN and phone number if I cancel Sky Talk?
Hi,
I have recently moved my interest to an FTTP service from another ISP. I now need to cancel Sky Broadband and thus Sky Talk as well.
My understanding is the landline will move to BT on cancellation. Will I therefore still have a working PSTN landline with the same number but with billing transferred to a vanilla BT contract?
I contacted BT previously but they only offer a digital line. I do plan to move to digital r but my burglar alarm is not compatible with Voip. So I'd like to keep PSTN running for a bit longer and not lose my phone number.
Has anyone else been through this cancellation process?

I don't believe that to be the case. If you cancel your Talk service with Sky your landline will simply be disconnected at the end 9f your notice period.

No. BT hasn't had a monopoly on such things since privatisation in the 1980s: they are just one of many competing ISPs/telcos and having them be the default fallback provider would be impossible in a fair market.
In addition, new PSTN provision has not been available since 'stop sell' was reached on September 5th 2023: this includes switching between ISPs.

For that to be the case you'll need to stay with Sky Broadband on the current technology they provide, and also prepare for the loss of PSTN to that alarm by the end of 2025 if not sooner. All manufacturers, suppliers and support companies for such hardware are well aware of this and will have IP (not 'VOIP') or cellular solutions available.
