The default package is pay as you talk so you are charged on a call by call basis without any additional monthly charge

if you don't use it and don't have a handset plugged in you effectively only have the broadband connection

Within a few years all 'landline' phonecalls will be traveling over broadband so that the antiquated analogue PSTN service can be switched off.  The original target was that this should be by the end of 2025: that's now been revised to January 31st 2027.
