continued viewing card pairing failure

I've been trying to pair my viewing card to a new box to me. I've done all the box prompts, the system recognizes the card, starts the pairing process but never completes. I ran it all night & it still didn't pair. I've unplugged, reinitialized with card out & it still will not pair. I've wipe the card, no effect. I can view my package but I can't record them or on-demand either. that sky assistant is less (removed) useless & only frustrates you. these nowhere I can find to contact a real person to sort what should be not that big a deal. I've being trying to pair the bloody card for days now with zero return!. (removed)

Does any one know how to fix this?

hi @Rambo65

If this is a SKY HD box then I am afraid you won't be able to pair it to any box it was not paired with last October

@BenSl if you have a Sky Q box

You can try refreshing your viewing card by pressing home > settings > system info > viewing card number > setup > viewing card setup press select to trigger a callback don't worry nothing to do with your phone its only Sky's terminology this will be done over the internet

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV, Google Pixel 7 Pro mobile

Ah did the HD box use an internet connection for pairing? I forget now.

Re: continued viewing card pairing failure

No not that either. Never used on demand or anything, just live sport and whatever's on, otherwise I'll do somethng else and frankly my viewing habits (not that there's anything shameful) are nobody else's business! First pairing was on Sky site then I have just left it to its own devices and it's been fine. Which is what I pay for, frankly

Well I don't know why it needs re-pairing but  I'm 99% sure pairing is an online process as it has to check the encryption shenanigans against a live service. afaik it's not possible to do it without some sort of connection.

Good luck with that "avoiding the whole data economy" thing.

@Chodley you're right, the New Install option on Sky+HD boxes carries out a card pairing process providing the box is connected to the Internet.

The stand alone pairing process via the Sky Help pages no longer works for Sky+ boxes (when I last looked, it just went round in circles without doing anything.  It might have been removed completely now).

Re: continued viewing card pairing failure

Don't get me started ...

But you did. The data economy is mostly nonsense. The idea that it helps businesses target etc etc is pretty unproven. In the meantime it creates echo chambers on social media and invades privacy. Data protection rules are flouted or circuvented (who are these faceless people who decide they have a 'legitimate interest' in knowing what I'm looking at online?) all the while preventing sensible human contacts from happening (I can tell you some horror stories involving bereaved people being unable to find each other). It's utter, utter nonsense

Oh I couldn't agree more. Utterly toxic with a few fringe benefits

but I don't think any of us can escape it, just have to learn to live with it.
