It is an old episode of Poirot that dates from 1989 that was recorded in 4:3.

So the old programme being shown is in the correct aspect ratio of the time.

There's probably a setting on your television to horribly distort it if you wish (although frankly David Suchet is a strange shape at the best of times ; )
