Of course, Mark.
However many programmes - across all channels - originate in the US but I don't get the same lousy sound issue!

I have full cinema sound with centre channel and it is awful quality from Sky, it is the centre channel that is very quiet, even when it is present. Any other source is fine.
I suspect it is the sound mix on the versions that Sky is showing that is the problem. The Blu Rays of the same films thatvInhavw are fine.
The other big problem with many channels On Sky is the sound sync drifting off. Does not happen on the main channels so much only things like Nat Geo or Discovery etc, though the Sky movie channels are not immune.

I have been struggling with this for years now, but whilst fiddling with my Tv the other day I found a setting in the Tv settings that said AVL , I turned this off and wow the volume blasted my ears straight away. Tv setting's AVL it stands for auto volume level.

It's great when you finally find the solution 👍

We experience poor sound quality on Sky Q recordings with speech. I have done all the things they say - "Normal" instead of "Dolby", switch cables, software update etc.
We also have Panasonic recorders and as we got so fed up with this I decided to record the same program on that as well as the Sky Q box.
Hey presto we heard every word when watching the Panasonic recording.
Forget all what they say and also "you need to buy a sound bar".
Nonsense.
(We also have high quality cinema system and turning that on with Dolby output from Sky makes little difference)
The sound quality (as well as the sound volume) on the Sky Q box is poor and it's about time Sky sorted this out instead of this smoke screen.
It is not helped by BBC sound who use a completely different sound capture system to everybody else. Generally ITV sound is far clearer, particularly when scenes are outdoors and mikes are tucked into coats etc.
It's a shame some critic / "Which" don't do the same and compare the sounds between machines and broadcasters and bring this subject to a wider and louder audience.

yea it seems there's more people have problems with sky Q and sky doesn't supply many answers, but it feels great when you sort it out by yourself, techno world, run by robots. Mick.

So far I have had BT out to check every single cable and connection into the house, as the problem with sound quality only reoccurred when the kids broke up from school. It was the same during lockdown, ie when a lot of people were using Sky. I have changed my sound settings to normal, but the background buzz is irritating. It reminds me of when I would turn up a cheap radio volume when I was a kid.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. This sound issue is occurring on Disney+, and any HD channel.

We are still having problems with sound despite putting it through Mission speakers and a Quad stereo system..

This also happens on sky witness too. I've been watching 9-1-1 seasons 1-3 on Disney plus (which is incredible btw) but 4-5 aren't on there yet so I'm watching them on sky. I don't know if anyone else has this problem but the characters voices and pitches as substantially higher. I'd go so far as to say some of the female voices sound almost barbie like...stereotypically American! And I know for a fact that's not how they sound on Disney plus or in real life. Same problem with arrowverse shows and New Amsterdam. All characters voices sound noticeably higher and it's only sky that does this. Prime, Apple, Disney plus and YouTube all sound normal. Then you come to sky and something has very clearly been edited pretty poorly too I might add

Yea there's some sky channels that are particularly bad and sound like all the women are American, I happened to come across some sound settings on my Tv that changed everything for the better, the sound was much higher and far more clear, I would try your Tv settings first, whatever mentions sound change it and try again, but remember exactly what you've done so you can go back to what it was, there's also a hidden feature on sky that you can change but I wouldn't go there, my guess is your Tv settings, have a look on your Tv website there might be a clue there, Mick

I just thought of the settings I changed, it was called AVL. that made the most difference. Mick

It's not 'editing' as such: the pitch-shift is caused by the framerate conversion which Sky insists on but the streaming apps don't.

Sky must know of this problem but do not bother to sort it!
Like everybody says the sound is good on terrestrial, netflix, amazon and more but diabolical on sky speech.
I am looking at Virgin.

As my contract came to an end I took the opportunity to reduce my package. This was mainly due to the poor recorded sound on movies in particular. Sky pulled some money back by charging £8 for HD. I will be fitting an aerial to allow access to torrential TV where HD is free.
