Will Sky replace SKY+ box in order to view BBCHD?

Hi All,

I've read Sky will replace my old Sky+ box for free, for a HD capable box, so that I can view BBC HD when the BBC service, from SD to HD, is upgraded soon. Do I have to be a Sky subscriber to be given this free box?

Thank you

@Tubbsup Sky will replace boxes with Sky Q ones which requires the sky essentials package as a minimum even to view FTA channels

You can buy used Sky+HD boxes from eBay for around £30. Be sure to get a DRX890 or DRX895 model as these are the most up-to-date.

You can always buy a used Sky+HD box from ebay etc. BUT without a Sky subscription you may not be able to pair your Viewing Card with a replacement box which means the default local BBC channels might not be for your area.
