Sky + hd box

So my father in law is 89. He has dementia and struggles when asked, how to perform a task like go to the planner. However, is left alone he can work through it. Unfortunately his sky + hd box is on the blink. Spoke to sky he qualifies for a new free sky Q box and disk installed and setup. The problem is due to his dementia he would never figure out how to use it. Apparently the remote is different, menus and options. Also, apparently you can't go back th sky + hd as the dish is different. I did have a idea to get a refurbished sky + hd but the viewing card would need configuring to the refurbished box. He has been with sky for more than £30 years, he is a VIP customer, he currently pay about £100 per month. Spoke to sky a couple of times now and the latest response is "

Grant from Sky. I have escalated this to our Insight Analyst team but there isn't an option to move to a refurbished box. Only option would be to try and get it repaired. Apologies but I did try".  NoReply

cant even reply. So the cost of a new box, dish and engineer v's someone reactivating the card, reticula.  Then they wonder why people look to alternative options.

@Babs-s

The bottom line is you can't pair his viewing card to any Sky+ box that it wasn't paired to at the end of October 2024.

@Babs-s as is often the case with old, legacy equipment, and Sky+ is 20 years+ old now, there comes a point where full support is no longer viable, in favour of newer systems. Sky+ hasn't been marketed for many years, though the ability to pair a Viewing Card with a replacement box was only removed last October. There's no longer any engineer support for Sky+ equipment.

The most likely cause of your father in law's faulty box is a failed or failing hard drive so having that replaced may well give the box a new lease of life.
