Can you buy Freeview boxes that don't require an aerial , ie , WiFi or ehernet connectivity ?

Freeview Play is the online variant.

Did not know about Freeview Play, just looked on my LG TV and it has Freeview Play Explorer app that seems to be an index to all the UK main broadcasters individual Online apps (Freeviews version of Sky Glass😁)

@Annie+UK

Play is a weird one: it's a mash up of the on-demand service from channels carried on Freeview , plus some online-only delivery.

I think a big complication is that many of the participants in Freeview distribution also have their own apps which they would really prefer people to be using.  However, if UK national government procedes down the route of clawing back the Freeview broadcast spectrum to sell it off then online delivery might actually have to become Freeview itself.

I have Freeview play on my lg TV but I want to watch one channel whilst recording another . If it's not too expensive I might invest in a hybrid LNB

Freeview Play is online only thus there is no recording facility, if I understand the system correctly

You won't be able to record on the Sky+HD box without a Sky subscription.
