Sky+ HD box not downloading programmes or movies

My Sky+ HD box has stopped downloading programmes & movies. I spoke with Sky technical & they said there's a technical fault with Sky in regards to this & he said it may take two more days to rectify the fault.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Sky catchup unusable

My Gateway Router numbers are almost the same as my IP numbers, I used Wheat46's screenshot post 213 to help me....

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Ive tried to go in to do the fix but when I go into manual configuration I just get this, with all the numbers blank, do I type in the details as on answer 231? Bit worried that I cant record how it is already set as nothing comes up 🤔

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Mine was blank too originally but I entered my IP address and copied screenshot on post 213 - DNS number either 1.1.1.1 or 1.0.0.1

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Hi, firstly I would like to thank Geoff who posted the solution to this problem, I  have experienced exactly the same issue as reported by other users. Although I don't directly use TT as my ISP, the small company i do use uses the TT network, hence downloading not working. Initially I changed the DNS setting on my Sky box to 1.1.1.1 but as this is really a quick fix and turns of DHCP on the box, I have now accessed my router and changed the DNS settings there, then reset the settings on my Sky box. Now all works perfectly. Looking at your screen shot, I would select reset (red button), then manual IP configuration (green button) move down to DNS , enter 1.1.1.1 and save. Hopefully this will work.

Re: Sky catchup unusable

This debacle has prompted me to ditch TalkTalk and thereby contribute to their decline.  Signed up with another ISP today.  Whether or not this issue is solved soon won't matter to me.

I'm pleased and thankful to our clever folk who helped a lot of us.  I think it's time I bought a Smart TV!

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Morning folks,

TT have fixed the problem!

I have already downloaded one complete programme and a second one is 90% complete.

Well there's hours of wasted time I'll never get back, but hey ho!

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Hi, mine fixed also. Didn't have to change any settings just fixed itself overnight. Glad I didn't listen to them saying I needed a new box. Thanks for all the help/suggestions everyone.

Re: Sky catchup unusable

I'm glad people are reporting this is now fixed at Sky's/TalkTalk's end. My software engineer mind would love to know what the actual problem was!

A few messages ago Andy thanked me for posting the solution, but it was Annie who first suggested changing DNS servers.

For those people who changed their router configuration to use 1.1.1.1 or 1.0.0.1 there is no need to change it back. However, turning off Advanced security on my Eero will now, presumably, no longer protect me from "accessing sites that host malicious content or viruses, botnets, phishing sites and more". That sounds like a good feature to have, so I'm seriously considering turning that at on which, in my testing, will then ignore my custom DNS configuration and go back to using TalkTalk's DNS servers and block some unsafe sites.

For people who changed their DNS configuration on their Sky box from automatic (using DHCP) to manual (using static configuration), I would recommend changing back to automatic and DHCP. A lot of the comments here suggested people only changed the DNS setting which will have left the Sky box using a static/fixed IP address in the range that the router can use for assigning to other devices on the network that still use DHCP. Days, weeks or months into the future that address might be given to another device, resulting in two devices having the same IP address. That could cause strange problems which would be very difficult to diagnose.

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Sound advice Geoff, but I'm very reluctant to tamper with my Network settings ever, ever again 😄

Thank you for all your help and patience
