Re: Sky catchup unusable
But shouldn't they make it clear that they are not at fault? At least we would know what to do next. I just don't think it is great communication on their part.

Have you worked in IT before especially working with Networking? I have and it's not always that easy to pinpoint issues it makes it nearly impossible when tthe issue is in someone elses setup

Hi.
Yes ISP is TalkTalk.
Have tried changing DNS to 1.1.1.1 on the Sky box Network settings and didn't make a difference.

Try reporting this to Talk Talk, the more reports they get the more they may get it sorted with Sky

Re: Sky catchup unusable
I have never worked in IT so I do rely on people like you or the service I am paying for to advise me what to do. I am not expecting Sky to know the answer immediatley, but would appreciate a little update. I don't think that is much for everyone to ask for when we are paying so much a month for their service. I'm not disagreeing with you that it is a complex problem, and maybe not even their fault.

Re: Sky catchup unusable
Who's control ? I was merely informing fellow members that it's not just Talk Talk kit in peoples homes that are affected, as I said on an earlier post it could be either Talk Talk or Sky, it's got update written all over it gone awry somewhere, in my experience could be a buggy patch, a firewall/port problem, security issue, load balancer rule amended incorrectly you work in the industry as I did these things happen but should be resolved by now or rolled back the $100 question is whose end was changed ?
We know how to change router configs but most people don't most of my mates wouldn't have a clue unless I showed them. Same way I'm not great with cars but my mates a mechanic
I am still unsure if anyone Sky/TT is taking ownership of this fault

Re: Sky catchup unusable
Hi
I tried to do what you suggested, and reached the required screen.
But, on the screen where I could put in the new DNS number, all of the 4 lines IP Address, Subnet, Gateway Router, and DNS did not contain any numbers - only dashes.
I left the screen rapidly. Please, can you tell me what numbers I need to enter in the other 3 rows. Or is there a way to do this automatically because I'm a bit nervous about changing things...

your caution is to be applauded. If you do not know what you are doing then doing nothing is the best approach. There is no one set of numbers that will work for everyone. It depends on what IP address range your home network is on. Some routers have different ranges to others. Assigning a static ip address to a device that is within the range that a router uses to issue IP addresses using DHCP risks two devices on the network with the same address at some random time in the future. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I would advise waiting it out if you are not confident.

Re: Sky catchup unusable
I've just emailed TalkTalk to see if there is any communication going on with Sky.
I think most of us feel, it isn't really our responsibilty to be fiddling with servers and security settings etc when most of us don't have a clue what we are doing lol

Re: Sky catchup unusable
I assume that the Sky employee(s) who monitor this forum are well aware of the problem and think the very least they could do would be to post an official acknowledgement or offer a suggestion as to how we proceed.

@JulieHickling This forum is primarily customer-to-customer help, you're not talking to Sky support
