You can access your recording on your sky+HD box, all you need to do is re-pair your viewing card with your sky+HD box. Remove your viewing card and put in your old sky+ box and then re-pair it. If you Google how to re-pair your viewing card you will find very simple instructions. Once done you can view and use your old box as usual.

The Sky+ box will not initialise if your LNB has been upgraded to wideband for Sky Q

I've done it myself so YES IT WILL. I had Sky Q for 6 years but I kept both my old Sky+HD boxes. I made the decision to ditch Sky and I hooked up my old black Sky+HD box. I re-paired it to my viewing card and I was able to access all my old recordings from 2019. My subscription was still active at this point and I watched a few of my old Crime & Investigation Network docs.. So yes you can I'm also an engineer by trade. Thank you you're welcome..

Make sure your Sky viewing card is correctly inserted into the box.
Press Services on your Sky remote
Press 0, 0, 1, Select (setup should now be highlighted)
Scroll across to New Install
Press Select twice

You must have a hybrid LNB and not a wideband one, I have had Sky+ for far longer than 6 years so know how it works

It will. It worked for me. I literally hooked both satellite cables back into the old sky+HD box. Re-paired the viewing card and boom. What makes you think it won't work? Have you ever done it?

I switched to Sky Q in 2019 from Sky+HD. My dish wasn't upgraded. If the chap has the original dish used for his Sky+HD then it will work.
30 Jul 2022 09:19 PM
When you had Sky Q installed did your dish get upgraded? Or did you keep the same dish you used for Sky+HD?

The 100+ reports from people complaining that their Sky+ boxes don't initialise when they move house to somewhere the pervious owner upgraded to Sky Q
Sky+ is incompatible with the standard Sky Q (wideband) LNB, the box will not initialise thus playback /recording will not work nor will you be able to access any premium (encrypted) channels
Your setup cannot be a standard Sky Q upgrade if as you report your Sky+ works with your Sky Q cables

ALL LNBs are changed when you upgrade to Sky Q as the old Sky+ LNB does not work, the dish can be used on both system just not the LNB (the bit where the cables plug into)
Do you have your own dish or a communal dish?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreNo such thing as a dish upgrade. The dish is the same for Sky+ and Sky Q boxes.

If I can do it and I had Sky Q then either you don't really know what you're talking about or I'm just a technical genius. Anyway I'm not arguing about it. I've not long left Sky Q I still have the box. My Sky+HD box is hooked up now to the exact same cables that were in my Sky Q box.
Perhaps they have changed the boxes since 2019 but the box I have and the Sky Q set up allowed me to re-pair the viewing card to my Sky+HD box and watch premium channels and access my recordings. I quite enjoyed watching my old Christmas time recordings..
