Well, don't expect any help or support from Sky. I gave up after wasting my time on Sky's legendary no customer service stance who just want to sell you Sky Q as a solution and lie until you catch them out and then hang up. I switched to Now who my Eldest son uses, saving me lots of money and aggravation. My broadband was with Sky and less than 12 months old for the record.

@JASEB001 Can you still Download from BBC and ITV? If not, then yours is a different issue to the one being discussed here.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

I've got an Amplifi router and boosters. It was £300 and there's no way I was changing it out.

Sky HD stopped downloading around march. They replaced with a new hd box, didn't work. Replaced with sky Q and now it does work.

I didn't want to move to Q but it's actually costing me less and the picture and sound are better so maybe it's not worth waiting to make that change.

Good luck everyone.

I fixed the issue via the instuctions here

I had tried, DNS flush on router, router resets, forcing router to use DNS host 8.8.8.8 but all still failing

Then on sky box, Network, Green button to do manual settings,  IP adress of router, subnet 255.255.255.0, and DNS server I tried 8.8.8.8 failed.  tried 1.1.1.1 failed

Then I tried OpenDNS

  • 208.67.222.222

And this worked.  Hope this helps.  My internet provider is community fibre, not sure hwat their default DNS host is, but even the main ones google and cloudflare seem to fail for me - so would suggest Sky hosts have not been updated there, but perhaps have on OpenDNS and other local ones like BT Broadband

@tinnedtuna this still isn't working for me. Can I ask, did you do repeated reboots of your sky box and/or your router when you were changing the DNS?

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Well I have decided to cancel my subscription to sky and go with bt which when I also cancelled my talk talk phone subscription I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I have saved a lot of money, about £50+ a month maybe more people should do this and maybe sky will think twice about screwing their customers over with all their bullshine

all I have to do now is find the best way to cancel sky subscription

any ideas???

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

No, I did try restarts before and no good.

On the sky box i tried 8.8.8.8 no restart, no good, then 1.1.1.1 no restart no good.

Then that Open DNS IP and it just worked straight away no restart

I'd maybe just go through some on this list and see what works.  https://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/uk-isp-dns-server-settings

I'm pretty sure it'll be something like the DNS routing the connection via europe and Sky thinking you are coming from outside UK and blocking.  Might just be different ones work depending on location

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Might not be much help but a few years ago when I had Sky broadband I tried using alternative DNS servers including Cloudflare and OpenDNS (set via router config) and my On Demand download speeds were extremely poor.  At the time a few red flags were raised in my mind as I was aware that the service should work acceptably regardless of ISP.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Just a note that I think I posted too soon!  My one download worked, but now I'm back to the classic FAILED and I can see with the info button the error is HTTP_403_FORBIDDEN which ties into the 'outside the uk' idea

I'll play with the DNS stuff some more over the next day or so and get back to you with results.  When you google that 403 error some more posts about DNS settings on other threads

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

I'm back.  So as above my error was HTTP_403_FORBIDDEN. (when pressing i on a failed download on a Sky HD box)

Tried all the DNS changes but still no luck.

Then I thought maybe an issue with my own IP address.  I went here:

https://whatismyipaddress.com/

If you then click on your IPv4 address there is then a button says check if blacklisted.

It then checks 30 blacklists, and yes my IP was on ONE of the blacklists.

I logged into my router and found a way to request a new IP address - got it changed and it's all working again.  Tried multiple downloads - all good

If you cannot change IP from your router perhaps your internet provider can do it for you.

Confirming my new IP adress is not on any of the blacklists and working.  So i suspect sky checks those blacklists and if your IP is on one then it just blocks you from downloading

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

I was able to resolve my box failing to download by going into Settings - Network - press down button and it gives an option to Reset by pressing the Red button. When I did this the DHCP box which was previously shown as off now showed as on and downloading works fine now. Hope this helps.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

I am having exact the same issue with my recently installed Sky Q I try to download an on demand item and it says 'downloading' then 'download failed' and 'no network connection' but when I check in settings I AM connected.  Totally frustrated.

@KEHarvey You need to post a new thread on the Sky Q Forum as yours is a different issue to the one being discussed here. Namely, a known issue affecting some Sky+HD boxes.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Just wondering how many people are still stuck with this problem.
my IP address is not coming up as blacklisted as suggested by @tinnedtuna  and I've had no luck resolving this issue.
I feel like Sky has given up on this.
