Yep, just switch your phone's wifi off while you do it then it will be forced to use your Mobile data
Yes, and these Ethernet to UsbC adaptors seem to be about £15ish. Even if they don't work or help for this issue they will still be useful for other tech links (if only old school).

If you need one and are anywhere near Wickford Essex you can borrow mine 😀

Really hoping this works for you guys like it did for me.
Best of luck!

Unfortunately @Gavi+B 's fix hasn't worked for me - I can successfully download using my iPad as a hotspot, but switching back to my router (after rebooting it) just goes back to the same problem with failed downloads.
At least I now know I can download using mobile data if I desperately want something but it's not the best solution.

Oh well the ethernet to usb is a bust. As it will not let me change the usb option on my phone from charging to tether.
So I think I will just have to try connecting one of my boxes that has wifi and if that works I will contact plusnet about changing my external static ip address.

After tethtering both my wifi boxes to my phone via wifi downloads started working. Then when I switched them back to my normal wifi network they have now both started working on that network as well.
So now I am just trying to think what I can do with my non wifi box. It seems to me that what has fixed the isseus is the switch of wifi networks made the DNS record at SKy's end get updated to a new ip address when I went via 4g and then changing back to my normal ip has allowed it to update again and while it is my original ip it is not as far as the DNS at SKy's end is concerned.
So I presume the only way I can achieve the same thing for my non wifi box is to possibly get Plusnet to change my static ip address. As while all 3 boxes have had the same external ip at their end I presume it has a DNS record for each boxes MAC address.

@MogwaiSatTV ah that's encouraging news. It's strange though because, I own 1 wifi and 1 non-wifi Sky HD box, and when I managed to get my wifi enabled box downloading ok, my other non-wifi box also resolved the issue without me doing anything apart from switching to a manually set LAN IP for it (rather than relying on DHCP).

All 3 boxes are now working. To get the non-wifi one working I found an extra setting in my phones options to enable tethering via ethernet as well as by Wifi.
So it would seem the issue was in fact that going on MAC address they had got stuck routing to the old DNS header they mentioned. Although why after 4 months their DNS change was not represent in all the DNS servers on the internet like Cloudflare and Google I am not sure.
Just for further info all the network switching done this morning to fix it was done without any rebooting of the sky box or router.

@MogwaiSatTV Nice work! Glad it wasn't only me that managed to sort the problem 😎

Many thanks @MogwaiSatTV for the update. It would be nice if Sky could sort this from their end for everyone in one shot.
I have ordered a usbc-ethernet adaptor plug and it should arrive tomorrow so I will hook my phone up to the (non-wifi) sky box and see what happens. Seems that I also have the wifi/ethernet option in my phone settings. At least I can use the adaptor for other stuff, not just messing around with Sky.

Spoke to soon my non wifi box seems to have reverted to not working and presenting the usual error.

OK. That is unfortunate but it is still info that might help sort this out.

Yes this is what happened to me switching routers, old router still has the problem.
As it appears Sky are working through the boxes affected (although this is an assumption given their update wording) has anyone here had their Sky HD box fix itself? (ie Sky fixed it)?
Maybe when they said they expected the numbers affected to decrease they actually meant those that leave, or just switch to Sky Q 😅

No change yet @PocketDog but like you I understood the update to mean the fix will come from Sky's side. So just have a wait for it to filter through. Fingers crossed now they know the problem it should not be too much longer.

I have rung plusnet and they are in the process of arranging for my static ip to be changed to another one.
As not only has my wired box reverted to having the issue. Both of my wireless ones have as well, where initially they where able to download stuff when I moved them back to the original wifi network earlier after having them tethered to my phone.
