@Chloe-22

I can provide the IP address information to the community messaging team.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

I am not a tech guy. So, that said, what I still do not understand is the following:

- As instructed by Sky, I ran the NsLookup on my laptop which is connected wirelessly to my router/home network. I got two IPv4 adresses flopping around (both numbers reported to Sky).

- I ran the same NsLookup on my smartphone via the same router/browser and get the same adm.sky.com IPv4 addresses as my laptop. To be expected, I guess?

- As reported before, the Sky+ box (hardwired to the same router as above...) fails to download catch up/on demand but SkyGo via my phone (same router as above...) can download catchup content to the phone. I am assuming that the Sky+ box uses the same IPv4 addresses as my phone & laptop (?).

Can anyone more tech savvy than me explain, in simple terms (to me and no doubt many others),  why SkyGo and the Sky+ box using the same router/ISP/IP address might both perform so differently with respect to downloads from Sky servers? I understand that the answer to that question may solve the issue but I am coming from a logic angle, not a tech background.

Thanks in advance!

I can't say for certain @Steve0001, but I'm fairly sure that the Sky+HD box's On Demand service uses a different network protocol and/or routing to download content than the SkyGo app.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

Sky Go is a streaming app where Sky+ downloads to the boxes HDD, so they use two different methods to achieve their goals

Thanks @Gavi+B

So that sounds like some Sky+ boxes go from point A (our homes) to D (dowload servers) via 'junction' C and C is currently a problem. For the same users, SkyGo goes from A to D via 'junction' B and B is fine.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Sky Go does stream. But for the Windows client it also allows you to download programs and to also tell your sky box to download it. The downloading onto the pc works. The sending to the sky box to download results in the same behaviour.

However it could be working as it connects to a different address than adp.sky.com or it could be that there are firewall rules or similar by the client type or app that is being used to connect to it.

I had an chat bubble yesterday but think I saw it too late as I had no response, and now it's gone.

Feel free to add me again if needed.

@PocketDog

I have had the chat to messaging team by using the colourful bubble. I have just seen a message (top right, then envelope that I could have used .

Let's hope that after these 5 weeks of trying they will soon fix this!

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

I have had a similar issue to those mentioned here and have now fixed it.

My situation is that I have the Google Nest WIFI mesh running in my house that sits between the various devices (the Sky+ boxes included) and the internet router.

I recently changed my broadband supplier from VIRGIN to TOOB and subsequently could not download any content from various Sky channels but could still download content from BBC | ITV etc.

If I reconnected the Virgin router it worked fine, if I connected the Sky+ boxes directly to the new TOOB router it worked fine; only connecting via the Nest mesh caused the problem.

After hours of research on the web and reading these community pages, phoning Sky and my new internet provider I finally worked out that I should put your router into "BRIDGE" mode or connect the Nest box directly to the modem (if there is a separate modem box).

Once I did this then all my Sky+ downloads worked fine.

The Google Nest hub is very clever and has overlapping functionality/routing with the new router; and I am guessing that the Sky+ downloads (for Sky channels) need some special routing/DNS/public IP setup

Anyway, hope this further information helps someone debug and fix their particular problem, good luck.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

@pn66 For all of the above configurations do you in all cases just use the ISP's DNS or something else like Google DNS?
