Hard drive / viewing card issues

Hi.👋

Our sky+ hd 2tb box came up with the fault code 06-0 hard drive issue the other day. So we could watch live tv, but no pause, rewind, etc functions and no planner. From looking online i understand this to be a hard drive diskless issue which is terminal.

So I got out our back up, old 500gb box. It started up and loaded up ok, but then after pairing up the viewing card we got the fault code cp04 with the message "request was successful. Your channels will be available shortly". We have terrestrial channels, that can pause, rewind, record, etc, but no download functions and no pay for sky channels.

Now again from looking online and on this forum I understand that sky no longer allow you to pair your viewing card to a new/different box.

So my questions are firstly is it actually really impossible to pair your viewing card to a different box?? No back door fixes or cheats!?? I also presume sky no longer issue viewing cards, so you can't just ask them for a new one.

And if the above is true then if I remove the broken hard drive in the 2tb box and replace it with the 500gb drive (or a new 2tb drive) will the viewing card then work in the box?? Or is the hard drive linked to the box's identity??

The box is mainly used by elderly father who struggles with any new tech, so is very, very resistant to go onto sky q.

So if there's any other options or suggestions I'd be most grateful.

@Afj273 Replacing the hard drive is the only solution.  The card only needs to be paired to the original box, not the drive.
