Fibre Optic HDMI 20 Metre Run ?

Hi. I wonder if anyone can assist please ?

I am moving our main family TV to another wall , and would like to keep the SKY HD box where it is. The whole cable run is about 17 metres .  Has anyone used an Optical HDMI out of an older style SKY HD box ?

I was thinking of purchasing this https://cpc.farnell.com/antiference/hdmil20fd/20m-hdmi2-0-aoc-lead-4k-fibre/dp/AV30329

Also do i need any special considerations when running fibre optic cable ? Can i treat it like a regular HDMI for cable routing, bends etc ?

Thank you

I've not seen one of those before. As Sky boxes don't have an optical HDMI output (I didn't know such a thing existed) I can't see how it would work?

@Mark39

I believe there are transceivers in the end plugs which convert HDMI to optical and back again.

@scotsnap

Typically you don't want to run optical cable through anything close to a right-angle.

There is also HDMI over Ethenet that may be cheaper and has fewer issues with bends 🙂

I did wonder about that. It's a very smart design if they can be fitted into the end plugs.

Thanks @Annie+UK  I did explore that but i have also read on here about some users on Sky Q having drop outs.

Also seems to be limited to 30Hz refresh at 4K.

I know the old SKY HD isnt at that resolution, but Id like to future proof a little in case i go to Q or or other

@scotsnap Could people with issues possibly only be using one Enthernet cable as there are solutions that use two but I'm not sure if the extra cable is for picture or sound

Anyhow you might like to search for "HDMI Repeater" on amazon, that should sort you out 🙂
