Connecting Sky+ box to internet.

My Sky+ box isn't finding my router. All I'm getting is fails across the board on services/network. The router is  ethernet connected but the router also sends out a WiFi signal.

I phoned Sky and they suggested manually inputting the necessary info

They suggested I do an IP Config on my PC to get the information needed., but I can't make head nor tail of what I need to input.

I need to input:

  • IP Address

  • Subnet

  • Gateway

  • DNS

The Sky box is asking for 12 numbers in each case, each group of 3 separated by a comma.

I did an IPConfig on my PC but not much seems to correspond with what my Sky+ is asking for. I get in order (on my PC)

DNS Suffix: 'Home' (not numbers)

IPv6 address: A group of 4 letters and numbers: 3 letters and numbers: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 numbers: 4 l&n

Another IPv6 address (but different to the one above): 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 0: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 l&n

Temporary IPv6 address (8 groups of numbers and letters)

Another temporary IPv6 address (8 groups of numbers and letters)

Link-local IPv6 address: 4 l&n:: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 6 letters, numbers and symbols

IPv4 Address: 3 numbers.3 numbers.0. two numbers

Subnet mask: 3 numbers.3 numbers.3 numbers.0

Default gateway: A group of 4 letters and numbers: :4 l&n: 4 l&n: 4 l&n: 7 letters, numbers and symbols.

HELP!!!!

I've no idea what I need to input for IP address and DNS. Even for Gateway and Subnet what comes up on an Ipconfig looks too long for the spaces for inputting numbers on my Settings/Network on my Sky+ Box. Also, the Sky+ Box only seems to take numbers and the Ipconfig is throwing up symbols and letters too.

E.g. the default gateway on the IP config is (Key – N=number, L=letter, S=symbol

Has your Sky box connected to the internet before? Does it have a WPS button on the front panel?

Re: Connecting Sky+ box to internet.

Well, this is a new box my mum got a month or so before she died, so I took it when I was clearing out her place.  She didn't have the Internet.

My box (20+) years old now has a corrupt hard drive, but it was connected.

I may be able to get all the relevant info if I connect it up again, perhaps?

That's an IPv6 address.  A Sky+ box only speaks IPv4 (so called 'dotted triplets')

The IPv4 Gateway Address will be dependent on the ISP router model: for Sky it's 192.168.0.1 while for BT it's 192.168.1.254

I'm really not sure why you need to enter any of that, or if doing so makes any difference for an ethernet connection.

Does you router have some type or "Smart Setup" where new devices added need to be verified via a webpage? This can cause problem unless disabled

You should just be able to connect via Ethernet and use DHCP to get the details
