BBC Channels

I have Sky + HD but keep getting a message on my tv saying that I need to upgrade to Sky Q to keep BBC channels. What does this mean? As far as I am aware those of us with HD boxes will not be affected by the switch over.

Bbc HD upgrade

why does the comms about the upgrade record on every bbc programme I record and how do I get rid of it. I've just had to sit through an hours programme with half a screen and the message at the bottom that I don't need, I have HD so won't be affected anyway

If you watch the HD version of the channel do you still see the message?

@LyndseyHogan  Sounds like your recording BBC 1 SD, so that message will remain, you cannot remove it.  If you don't have a Sky+ HD box then you won't be able to watch BBC1 HD in your region until you do upgrade.

Urgent Notice for Sky+ users: as of 29th October 2024 you will no longer be able to pair your viewing card to a Sky+/Sky+HD box that the card is not already paired to, so if your Sky box breaks you cannot replace it and you'll need to move to either Sky Q, Sky Glass or Sky Stream to access Sky content

@LyndseyHogan It's incredibly annoying but it's the BBC that are putting the on screen message up and leaving it there throughout the programs. Utterly ridiculous.

Like you, I choose to record the SD version of some programs (primarily for space saving + we know we will be watching them via a magic eye setup in SD anyway).

I know that SD will soon be switched off soon by the BBC but I don't need recordings ruined in the mean time, otherwise they might as well switch it off now.

@oj01  Would you not be best directing this to the BBC by contacting them?

I'm sure if they reduced the message appearance come switch off there will be a plethora of posts complaining no one told them of this.

Either way they do it they won't be able to win.

@GD1

Yes, and I have.

For the past few weeks the message has appeared in between programs, which is fine. But this week it has stayed on screen during programs, rendering them unwatchable.

So they're not even switching it off until next year but they are choosing to make the programs unwatchable now. Brilliant.

If your box is a HD one so you can see your local region on 101 then you shouldn't be being sent these messages as these should go to those that have non HD+ boxes as per this:

Re: BBC Channels

I have BBC in HD, and many other HD channels (though no paid HD channels)  but also have a lot of channels not in HD.

Then you should only see that message if watching BBC1 in SD on Ch 801

Re: Bbc HD upgrade

Hi,

I just wanted to comment that I have a Sky+HD box and the BBC HD upgrade message appears in a huge white box in the middle of the screen that completely obscures viewing and occurs randomly on any channel. You have to manually back up to get rid of it, which means it has ruined my recordings as I was not present to remove the message.

I have no intention of ever upgrading Sky from my present box as it's too expensive, and since I have Sky+HD, the message is redundant. I have no idea why Sky wishes to ruin the very viewing I'm paying over the odds for. No need for any reply, I just wanted to add my experience to the conversation and I doubt it will be remedied. Currently looking to ditch Sky after being a customer since 1991.
