Adjusting sky dish alignment

Hi, it appears my signal quality is down which may mean the dish alignment is out a bit.

is it safe to adjust the alignment with the tv on and the signal

'Safe' for the Sky box and  attached television set, yes, not so much for an untrained and unsecured human-being up a ladder....

In general terms I'd think success without a signal meter is going to be patchy at best: remember there are three variables (elevation, azimuth and skew) involved.

Oh, and keep in mind that when plugged into a live mains socket a Sky box is sending a small voltage up to the LNB, as I once proved by stripping the insulation off the inner conductor of a coaxial cable with my teeth.

Mostly just glad I was standing on a flat  asphalt roof rather than holding a metal rung  ; )

Well, I appreciate the humour, but on the other hand, you're last message infers an electrical hazard?   Is there one if all I'm going to do is move the dish on its mountings to see if it's come loose.

id appreciate a definite answer as to whether there is a possibility of being electrically hurt by moving the dish - slightly.
im not going to mess with wires.

hi @Bubbafan

The output is 13v/18v and a max of around 300mA - which is actually quite small and not likely to cause injury in itself but being unprepared on an unsure footing I guess could have consequences

I have never had a problem when adjusting my LNBs  (although my multisat dish is at ground access level & my older dish - no longer in use - was accessible from my  bay window flat roof)

BTW the 13v vs 18v is what is used to switch between polarisations (hence my jest)

It's certainly unpleasant when applied orally.  Ladders are fundamentally dangerous enough without adding that to the mix.
