Note that a Stream puck cannot be used to actually watch Netflix (or anything else) without a Sky subscription: pucks acquired after February 2023 have to be returned to Sky, while those from before then are owned but have no functionality.

I thought that had been debunked? I've just searched back and there was a user @Derek_Trotter who suggests otherwise, after cancelling his sub he was able to setup his customer owned puck and use everything apart from the live channel streams without an active subscription:

I think that's a bug rather than a feature, probably because Glass and Stream are essentially the same and Glass does have ongoing non-subscription use. Presumably Sky could tell the difference if they chose to do so.
In the case of all pucks acquired after February 2023 it's moot anyway.

But with an active Sky account... which will eventually get cancelled... without an active Sky TV subscription?
Pucks can only work if they can access Sky servers?

Do Sky IDs get cancelled after a period of time? @Derek_Trotter doesn't seem to be around here any more to ask but according to his post he had no active subscription, but was able to factory reset a customer-owned puck, connect to WiFi and activate it with his existing SkyID.
It sounds like it acts exactly like a Glass TV without a subscription - it's functional, the apps work, etc. but you just don't get the live channel streams. The live streams are, in effect, the main USP of Sky Stream at the moment, so if the customer has purchased the puck (as you would purchase a Glass TV) then it should by rights have some use, and the access to third party apps seems to be as much as you'll get.

Sky specifically says they don't.
However, as in many things, that's not necessarily the same as this being correct...

I'll be able to test it out soon and report back. We've had enough of Stream and are cancelling. My puck is customer owned so I can do the same and see if it does prove to be useless.

Given their track record of dodgy proof-reading, I'd imagine it's conceivable that this statement is actually meant to apply only to Stream pucks bought alongside a Glass television, which was the distribution model for the first year. There's then the awkward bit between October 2022 and February 2023 where pucks were sold by themselves rather than loaned, before the switch to loan-only.

I believe the Sky account becomes deactivated after 12 months of a customer not having any services. So would certainly be interesting to see if its works well over a year after cancelling.

Useful to know but I very much doubt we'll be keeping the puck for very long! It'll be going straight on eBay once I've tried out the factory reset and re-link instruction to see if it does function without a subscription.
