When I activate 2160 p Uhd movies gets shuddering every few minutes.

When I watch HD, evetything is fine. When I make the UHD setting (2160p) active, the UHD movies are şnterrupted every few minutes. The screen shudders. Impossible to watch.

I have an LG TV ehich works perfectly with all other UHD input.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

@Alaybozan

One of the main reasons for stuttering or freezing is the quality and speed of the Wi-Fi signal being received at the TV/puck and not that being received at the router.  This can be checked with the Netflix App (Get help > Check network).  The minimum speed recommended for HD is 25mbps and 30mbps for UHD (add 5mbps to each if you have an additional puck)

If your speed at the TV is borderline try connecting via Ethernet cable. If this is not practical you can use powerline adapters (about £30 at Amazon)

Thanks for your response. According to the Netflix "Check your network" test, my speed is 48 Mbps. So the Wifi speed does not seem to be the problem, I guess.

Can I do anything else?

Thank you.

@Alaybozan Do you have other devices connected to your router? If they are sharing your bandwidth that could be the cause of your problems.

Yes but they do not drain a lot of bandwidth. Also it was in the evening and none of the other devices were active.

By the way, I saw that a lot of people complain about this online. Can it be a known issue to Sky? Maybe it is a bug or an update issue?

Thanks.

Try running the network check on Netflix a few times whilst running some other devices which use your WiFi. You might be surprised just how much bandwidth they can take up.

Stream can be overly sensitive to network speed fluctuations which is why it's always adviseable to give it as much bandwidth headroom as possible. I personally wouldn't try to run a puck on less than 60-70Mbps if there are other devices needing to use the network at the same time.

@Alaybozan Well I have 4 pucks and don't have any issues, I do have 1Gb FTTP and use my own WiFi 6 router so that might help. Don't be blinded by the few complaints about pucks on here, many subscribers don't have issues.

@Floydianslip I'm with you and have very few issues using wi-fi.  I don't think people realise how much a wi-fi signal can fluctuate.  As an example I have 500mbps FTTP and most of the time it is at about 450mbps (using the Netflix network test) but it can fluctuate between about 150 & 450mbps (just checked it now and it is 294).  It seems to depend on many factors such as on the time of day, even whether or not the neighbours are in the apartment next door etc.

48Mbs actually isn't a lot of headroom above the 30Mbs which Sky advises for UHD, and  'normal' fluctuation for many wireless environments could well dip under the realistic minimum.

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to respond in detail. I used to have another provider before Sky with the same broadband usage set up in the property and never struggled with watching UHD. The wifi speed when measured  at different times was the same or even lower.

Gaming also became impossible.

I called a sky engineer. If they cannot solve it, maybe I will cancel sky and go back to the previous service provider.

Re: When I activate 2160 p Uhd movies gets shuddering every few minutes.

@Fothergill1 Agreed, When I use the Netflix speed test you can run it 3-4 times and get different results and time of the day is important. I've just done an Ookla Speedtest on my ipad and it's 427Mbps and that's upstairs in a bedroom, if I do that at evening it's usually around 250Mbps.

To be honest if I didn't have FTTP I wouldn't have entertained Stream and stuck with Q.

Re: When I activate 2160 p Uhd movies gets shuddering every few minutes.

UHD bandwidth requirements vary from Streaming platform to streaming platform... Sky run low compression in comparison to Netflix which is why Netflix can deliver UHD with HDR and Atmos over 15mbps but Sky Stream has a recommended bandwidth of 35mbps. If you only have around 45mbps, you'll find that Stream will be eating as much as it can to maintain a constant stream so any little bit of other usage could upset things.

Just for comparison, I have 500mbps full fibre and two pucks, 1 is connected by Ethernet and the other by WiFi but both will try and max out their network adapters and connections to maximise available bandwidth so I think the stuttering you're experiencing is buffering... This isn't a fault with the system because ours work perfectly and more down to you needing more bandwidth.
