When I attempt to watch a film on Sky channels that I'm subscribed to from start or films from playlist Iget this upgrade message even though the films are no longer showing on the movie channels

Can you give some examples of the films and the channels they were on?

Retribution is only available to Stream on demand with a Sky Cinema subscription.
When movies are shown in Sky Showcase you need to watch them live. Adding them to your playlist will not give you access to them later without a Sky Cinema subscription.

Watch only movies on Sky's subscription channels are broadcast as a perk and to promote Sky Cinema subscriptions🤔
In the past Sky gave access to the equivalent of Sky Cinema by a short periods of free access😉

If that's the case then when my subscription ends that's another customer Sky will have lost its bad enough having to deal with the glitches and loss of service without being conned into getting a movies subscription.

The Sky Showcase channel is designed to 'showcase' other Sky content and encourage you to subscribe to other packages. It's not really a con, it's just a form of advertising.

Indeed - the same typically applies to sports content they simulcast on Sky showcase, play listing them require the correct Sky sports subscription to view the content after live broadcast.
The point of a showcase channel is to showcase a range of content provided on other Sky channels, some of which require, additional subscription packs. It's quite a common marketing practise for broadcasters. Paramount have done similar where they have broadcast one episode of a show on channel 5 but the rest of the series you have to subscribe to paramount + to watch it.

You are free to subscribe or not to Sky Cinema if you want on-demand access ... there is no compulsion😉

Or you could regard the chance to watch a film on Showcase which would otherwise only be available with a Cinema subscription as a bonus.
The difference is that with Glass/Stream, unlike Q, such content cannot be recorded.

Regardless if the film is still live one should be able to select watch from start wouldn't you agree?

You would expect that to be the case, yes. Did it not work for you?
Personally, I don't trust watch from the start on Sky Stream any more. There have been too many instances where it glitches or kicks you out back to the live stream at a random point. It just isn't reliable enough.

You can use the Netflix account paid for via Sky on other devices anywhere🤔
