Since we had sky installed last year we have been unable to record anything. There doesn't seem to be a facility to record with or onto. When we queried this at instalation we were told we didn't need to record programmes as everything was available somewhere. This can't be right. We want to be able to record programmes, series etc.
please can you help.

What programmes are you watching that can't be accessed via adding to your playlist?
You will never be able to make local recordings with Sky's streaming services😉

Sky Stream & Glass use 'cloud recordings'. Rather than thinking of them as actual recordings you play back as you might have done on Sky+HD or Sky Q, think of them as bookmarks that you can go back to.
If you find a show, film or sports event you want to record in the TV guide or elsewhere on the Sky Stream homepage etc, you can click the + button on your remote control to 'record'/bookmark it. This will add the recording/bookmark to your Playlist which you should be able to find at the top of you Sky Stream homepage. When you go in here, you can then play your recorded/bookmarked content.
If you go all the way down to the bottom of your Sky Stream homepage, there will be some Getting To Know Sky Stream videos. The ones relating to adding to smart playlists and using smart playlists will give you a quick video guide to using the + button and accessing your recordings via the Playlists on your home screen.
When you add a show to your Playlists using the + button, Sky Stream will keep adding new episodes in automatically, a bit like series link was back in the Sky+HD days. Depending on which provider(s) own the show, you may well get all episodes & series listed all in one place, even if some of them are on BBC and others on Gold (for example),.
There are a few caveats on using the + button and what gets added to the playlists, depending on whether the show/film/event is from Sky themselves, BBC, ITV, Disney+, Netflix etc. Don't too much about that at the moment though. Give the + button and playlists a try and see how it works out for you.

Sky Stream does not record. It is a streaming service so everything (apart from live channel streams) is delivered on demand via your broadband connection.
Programmes you add to a playlist should provide you with a link to stream them. Most of these programmes will then play back either via an app such as iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 or My5 or will stream directly from Sky's servers.
You do not have a hard drive with Sky Stream upon which you can store programmes. You cannot mark programmes to keep or delete them - everything is controlled by the broadcasters so they can remove programmes from the streaming service at any time. You have no control over this.

That was so helpful - I now understand how it works. Thank you so much.

What if I want to "bookmark" a particular "episode" of a series (it's not a series, it's sport)? Based on everything that's been said, that's not possible - that can't be right? If so then progress is a misnomer where Sky are concerned. My dad was right.....Virgin Media is actually better after all!

The playlist only bookmarks by title, not by individual episode.

If you miss the start of a series and realise that you want to watch it and the series if halfway through it's run, add it your playlist and it'll pull through all episodes and seasons.
