Tagged films on Film4 not available for catch-up
Completely fed up with films I have pressed the red button (catch-up) not being available to watch but appearing on other channels eg. Paramount, Disney etc.
Tonight I swapped channels to find MI: Fallout being shown on Film4 HD, pressed the red button to watch later and decided to check on it in my Playlist. It came up as available on Paramoint+ with nothing being said about being able to watch it on Film4 at a later date. This happens the majority of the times with films on this channel that I have to go back through my Playlist and delete half the films I have tagged for later viewing. What is the point of Sky Stream if I can't watch films at a later date because they put them on channels I do not have?

It's all to do with broadcast rights. For a number of films broadcast on film4, channel 4 will only have the broadcast rights for them and not necessarily on-demand:streaming rights for the film and therefore if they don't have the rights the playback won't be available on the channel 4 app and instead you would need to subscribe to the on-demand platform like Disney+ or Paramount+ that does have the streaming rights for the film.

By definition Sky is not responsible for content distributed on a Channel 4 branded service, and given the dire financial situation that Channel 4 is in it's perhaps not surprising they choose to penny-pinch regarding the on-demand distribution rights which are required for playback from 'cloud storage'.
Having said that, the situation highlights a distinct disadvantage of Glass/Stream compared to the older recordable satellite platforms which can capture anything received through a dish onto their local hard drives and so don't require such rights to be in place.

Hi Mark, I can see what you are saying but isn't it therefore Sky's respooto stop the red button working on films you cannot watch at a later date? It's amazing how many of these films show up on Sky Store as pay per view 🤨

Not really, as in all likelihood the majority of customers will have subscriptions to the likes of Disney +, Paramount + or Sky Cinema which would have a lot of the on-demand streaming rights for films. The Sky Streaming platform is essentially an amalgamator providing an all in one platform to be able to watch Sky shows along with all the content from the big streaming apps like Disney, Paramount, Netflix etc.

It's also Sky's responsibility to make money, hence directing you to their own Sky Store.
The end of hard drive recording is orchestrated to enable distributors, programmers makers, networks, et al to take back control of their content so that they can all make money from selling it via streaming services or by inserting advertising.
