Stream/Sky Go/Apple TV

I currently have an Apple TV 4K streaming box. If I were to order one Sky Stream Puck would I be able to access Sky Go on the Apple TV box and watch all the content that would be included in my subscription, like sports for instance.

On the Sky Go app why are the BBC channels not available to view and is there a workaround for this. Thanks

All my opinions are my own.

Yes, you can have a single Sky Stream puck and access Sky Go on an Apple TV 4K box, but only with the additional Whole Home subscription charge.

Be aware that Sky Go is not linked in any way to Sky Stream or the Entertainment OS which runs on it, so you have no access to your playlists or continue watching information. It is a completely separate streaming service with limited resolution (most in 720P).

BBC channels are not available on Sky Go because the BBC like to keep control of their own content. You can stream BBC channels live via the iPlayer app on an Apple TV 4K box.

You are probably better off getting a subscription to NOW with Ultra Boost. You can then stream Sky Sports in UHD with HDR on your Apple TV 4K box without needing a Stream puck or additional Sky subscription. Deals are available for Entertainment channels too. I pay £3.99pm for a 6 month Entertainment subscription with NOW and £2pm for Boost.

There's no 'workaround': the BBC wants the viewing figures in iPlayer to justify spending Licence Fee income on the platform.

Sky could list the channels in Sky GO but redirect to iPlayer when selected🤔

They could, but what they really need to do is get rid of Sky Go and design a new app from the ground up which incorporates the Sky Stream/Glass EPG and is fully integrated with Entertainment OS, if that's to be the future of their platform. They're woefully behind with this.

The official Freeview app has been able to have a full EPG and the ability to open third party apps to view content from that EPG live and on demand for years. Sky Go is still too stuck in the Sky Q era.

Perhaps that will happen when Sky Stream subscribers exceed Sky Q subscribers😉

Re: Stream/Sky Go/Apple TV

Hi,

I have a kind of related question about Sky Go on Apple TV. Is this possible to toggle to next channel from remote while watching one channel? As on iOS, it requires to come out of the channel and select next channel from the EPG?

The Sky Go app on an Apple TV, Console, PC, Tablet or smartphone will be menu driven in the same way across all devices exactly as you describe for iOS above.

The remote control for your device will not act as an up/down live channel selector.

Probably cause Sky Go always replaces the previous apps like the Sky+app and the Sky Q app

If they broughtan app out for Glass and Stream no doubt it will get replaced with Sky Go?
