Re: Sky stream standby mode
Same thing recently started happening with my Sky Stream.
Knocks itself off every few hours while watching Live TV. This doesn't happen while watching any On Demand content, only Live TV.
Extremely annoying.

@Fothergill1 wrote:Hi @mfactor111 You may well be right but I don't know for sure as I can't be asked to read it all but if they did I wonder if they may be in breach of this legislation. Although we are no longer in the EU the pucks are widely used in other EU countries and Sky need to be compliant with their legislation as well.
The legislation simply requires devices to go into standby "after a reasonable amount of time". There is no exact period of time specified; it's for the manufacturer to decide what is reasonable for their device.
Most TV/AV equipment is set to go into standby after 4 hours of inactivity by default. with options for the user to reduce/extend that or disable the feature completely.

Re: Sky stream standby mode
Wondering if they have a voice funtion for blind users who can't see the "Raise your Remote" prompt , I would think it would be discrimination if they did not ?
That would do me as I said I usually have music on when doing other stuff , so a sound reminder and a longer time to get to the tv would work for me...
At least have something come up on the tv earlier, maybe a countdown in the corner

Re: Sky stream standby mode
I agree with others, this is 100% a new feature, for some people at least.
no issue with it powering down from the home page. I think the feature can be better written. Pausing a tv show is not 'inactivity'. This needs to go into the 'active' category.
Theres no excuse for the puck supposedly 'not knowing'. If it doesn't know then the feature isn't fit for purpose.

Re: Sky stream standby mode
Also having this issue lately, puck turns itself off only after 5 minutes of inactivity. Very annoying and also paying £100/m for this garbage

I also have another TV / puck combination in a different room.
This one has Build Version QSE036.023.00P
Exhibits the same problem.
Same sh*t, different software version....

Re: Sky stream standby mode
Seems to be app specific, I've just kept Prime on pause for 90 mins no problem, my wife watching Countdown had less than 10 minutes to make porridge on pause

Re: Sky stream standby mode
What I have noticed if you pause YouTube it won't shut down. This shows it's possible for it to stay on but sky just don't want to flick the switch. I ran my stream off a power bank it uses so little power it's not worth worrying about my ps5 consumes far more in standby just sitting there doing virtually nothing. An electric smoke alarm is so cheaply made they consume more than the stream box just doing nothing but waiting for smoke. I've found my puck consumes 1-2w at most during TV streaming. 16 hours of usage would be roughly equivalent to charging a phone once. I put something on for my son (he's autistic) and he's absolutely scared stiff of dogs. We leave it on so if our neighbours dog barks he can't hear it. I walk out the room for a little while and come back and it's just randomly off. It's not the end of the world but it's just annoying that I can't just leave it running. These stupid directives to save on power are stupid. 4 hours of tumble drying is equivalent to the power the puck would consume for a whole year if left streaming constantly. It's so miniscule it makes no odds. My home is roughly 400-500w of constant base load so a stream puck being left on would at 0.2-0.25% to that consumption. I wonder if could rig up an IR blaster to.just send out say an up.signal every few hours to keep.the box on. I believe the IR still works on the box even when using the Bluetooth remote.

Re: Sky stream standby mode
Hi Jenny I've also noticed this has begun happening within the last 3-4 weeks. My sleep timer (in settings) is set to off, so this shouldn't be happening. Tried resetting the sleep timer to 4 hours, & it still shuts down after about 15-20 mins! I checked the sleep timer again & it had reset itself to off, but it still shuts down. It's very annoying, not ot mention inconvenient. 😠

Sky stream pause
I've had sky stream for a couple of years. I used to be able to pause live tv for about 25 minutes. Now when I pause anything (whether it's live tv, or something on an app) after about 15 minutes the puck turns off and turns off my tv. This is an outrageous feature that defeats the whole purpose of having sky.

Why is it outrageous? It's saving you, and the planet, energy. Why would you need to pause a programme for longer than 15 minutes anyway?

Re: Sky stream pause
Maybe to go take my dog for outside because he needs the toilet, to unload the washing machine, to make dinner?
I'm not against saving energy- I turn everything off at the socket at the end of the day. However, it's not unreasonable to expect something to not entirely shut down after 15 minutes- especially considering one of the whole selling points of sky is the ability to pause live tv.

You can complain to Sky if you like. They are in control of the hardware and the SkyOS running on it. They have decided that the eco-credentials of the puck cannot be over-ridden.
