Sky stream puck turning av back on
Hi I am suffering a strange issue with my sky stream puck. Over the last few weeks my onkyo surround sound has started turning itself back on after about 30 seconds of turning my Samsung tv off (which is linked by cec to my AV)
I have isolated everything else to rule all other items out, and when my sky puck is disconnected it doesn't do it, but the second my puck is connected again by hdmi it starts again. I have changed my HDMI cable to rule out the issue and even swapped my other sky puck around but the issue still persists.
puck is plugged directly into my AV which is an Onkyo TX-L50
the issue hasn't always existed which leads me to think it might be a software issue but I can't be certain?
current software version is qs023.010.00p
if anyone else is noticing this issue or has any suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
@ChrisBarnes1981 HDMI control issues can be infuriating as it is not a true standard between manufacturers . In your set up you have a Sky puck, a Samsung TV and an Onkyo amp a minor firmware update to any one of those units could cause the issue tracing what has changed is often impossible.
Sky have specialist engineers who spend their time talking to their equivalent at third party manufacturers but odd issues like yours pop up. if other people report the same issue then it may be possible to get it checked out.

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
I have had this issue from first getting a Sky Puck in June 2023. The only way I could get the Sky Puck NOT to keep turning the TV and AV amp back on again was:
1. Turn off the sky puck and immediately turn on
2. Apple TV and let the AV switch to that HDMI input
3. Turn off Apple TV. Then everything turns off and STAYS turned off.
I have also 'fixed' the issue by using a CEC blocked HDMI dongle (no connection to pin 13). This prevents the Sky Puck from restarting the AV system (in my case Arcam AVR, Naim Uniti, Panasonic OLED and Pioneer power amps for the ATMOS channels). But it also prevents the Sky Puck from starting the system when you want it too. I've had Arcam confirm it to be a Sky issue and see there are many online complaints about Sky Puck for various CEC/ARC issues.
Personally, I have grown to hate the Sky Puck for a whole rag bag of faults, inconsistencies, and poor streaming. All issues I do not have with either Apple TV or Amazon Firestick.

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
I've just bought a cec blocker which has resolved the issue for me, sky really need to sort their acts out with this! I am paying to rent a unit that does not fully function as it should!

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
Yes, any CEC blocked dongle will prevent the unwanted CEC behaviour from the Sky Puck, but it means you have no CEC control. So, you have to bring back otherwise redundant remote controllers. I agree Sky need to resolve this and other issues, but I have zero confidence they will. This particular issue has been around for at least a year. It is infuriating. And so unnecessary. All generations of Apple TV (for example) have played nicely with other manufacturers kit

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
I have the same issue but the other way round. Two weeks ago my Sky Stream just stopped switching the HDMI input to itself on wake up. CEC switched to on, on both my TV and the puck. Tried a different hdmi lead AND moved it to each HDMI port on the TV - still nothing!
I just don't get how it worked two weeks ago, nothing has changed but now I've got to go hunt out my TV manufacturer remote to watch TV 😡

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
I'm not suprised. The Sky Puck is as unpredictable as Amazon's Alexa. Every week a different thing is broken via updates. For example, my puck constantly forgets that it has a 4K UHD display attached and resets to something else. The only way I can be sure of getting bitstream quality Dolby Atmos through to my AV system is to set audio to "pass-through". I could go on, and on and on. In my opinion, the puck is not fit for purpose. It can take 3 minutes to start up. It doesn't buffer enough to provide glitch free playback. Search and Ad skipping functions are poorly executed....
I have been patient with it, but now only use it when I have no other choice to watch/stream programs. My Apple TV 4K, FireStick and even my PC are all hugely better than the Sky Puck for delivering UHD, Dolby Atmos programs to my AV system.
I just wish I was not stuck in a contract with Sky.

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
Mine started about 2 weeks ago too. I read that they released an update and then rolled it back again, I wonder whether it wasn't a true like for like rollback and it had created this new issue, the issue certainly hasn't always existed for me!
mine every now and again reverts from 4K to 1080p for no apparent reason at all!
all in all the service itself is good but is massively let down by poor hardware!
I wouldn't be surprised if they release new hardware soon and then charge us to take advantage of it!!

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
@Oakholt out of interest (and to aid my current research into alternatives), why do you have both a Firestick and an AppleTV? I'm the same re Sky contract - but unfortunately to get high quality Sky Sports, they have me over a barrel 😔
@ChrisBarnes1981 I wouldn't be adverse to new hardware and even having to pay for it - so long as the quality matches the price!!

Re: Sky stream puck turning av back on
So here's a development! Today I purchased a new LG tv and out of interest I removed my cec blocker to see what happened. Would you believe it, the cec works perfectly, surround no longer turns back on! Sky is still plugged into the AVR like it always was.
So despite the issue only going away previously when my sky hdmi used to be disconnected from the onkyo avr, it appears that it was the Samsung tv that was causing the issue for me.
