Sky stream-how many problems?

Looking at changing from virgin media to maybe sky stream, but seems to be a lot of problems. Is it worth it?

Depends on who you ask. You'll see on these forums that some people love it and some people hate it. Is it functional? Yes. Is it perfect? No.
There's nobody that can answer your question 'is it worth it?' because the only person who can answer it is you.
Why not give it a trial? It's the only way to find out if it'll work for you.

Re: Sky stream-how many problems?

I can have stream with entertainment and netflix for £26 on rolling contract. So might do.

@cliff53  Personally I like Stream but have to admit it is by no means perfect.  I am lucky enough to have fast and stable broadband which is essential for a decent viewing experience.

If you decide to give Stream a try remember you have a 31 day cooling off period during which time you can cancel your stream contract with no penalty.

Re: Sky stream-how many problems?

Would 135 be enough?

@cliff53  If connecting over wifi which most people do then wifi speed & strength will also be an important factor as much as line speed.

If possible i'd use ethernet and turn off the wifi settings within the puck menus

That broadband speed will be ok.

But if your household is very busy using the internet, the bandwidth within the household to share across all devices can drop.

A good test when you have Sky Stream is to run the Netflix app speed test, from the help menu.

If your current TVs are smart TVs and are the ones you will be plugging your potenial Sky Stream into,  run the Netflix app speed test on those  TVs and see what kind of speed you get. It will give you a good general idea what kind of speed you will get on your potential Sky Stream.

I moved from Sky Q to stream back in February and like it.

Have a read of my journey from Sky Q to Sky Stream and how it plays out for me;

Re: Sky stream-how many problems?

My speed is 70 (copper to building) router next to puck, using Wi-Fi, no others using the Wi-Fi and it's been perfect even uhd, not experienced any buffering from day one (4 months).

Its been good for me apart from the playlist function needs more work.

sPellling, grammar """punctuation or especially typo has never mine strength point? So thank you be kind….

Re: Sky stream-how many problems?

You can try Stream on a rolling monthly contract without disturbing your Virginmedia service. If you don't like it just cancel and return the puck.

@cliff53  If that is over WiFi then assuming it's a strong signal that is more than enough even for UHD.

As mentioned in post above.

That speed is ideal for using Sky Stream.

Re: Sky stream-how many problems?

@cliff53 we had 120mbps and found that on the odd occasion of heavy use, we'd push it the limits but that would be when I'm streaming UHD football, downloading something on PS5, playing Nintendo Switch online and my wife watching something upstairs whilst using her phone to play a game... But for 90% 120mbps was more than enough

Re: Sky stream-how many problems?

@cliff53

We have been in the same position as you, wanting to get away from Virginmedia and looking at alternatives.

After the simple menu structure of the Virgin recording box, the Stream interface was initially a problem for some family members, who still went back to the virgin box to find what they wanted.

Getting into Stream is a bit like entering a supermarket where you had to go through a lobby full of adverts before you are allowed into the food aisle, only to find that the products you want are displayed in two different places.

You really must have a trial of Stream before committing, because it is so different.

We've been on a monthly trial for nearly three months now, and are still not ready to commit to the longer term contract.

Good luck with what you decide.
