Sky Stream on rolling contract using original puck (pre Feb 23)

I moved to Sky Stream from Sky Q in 2022 but went back to Sky Q as I didn't get on with Stream. I didn't have to return my Stream Puck as it was before Feb 2023 so I still have it.

I'm now out of contract and have cancelled my Sky Q subscription (it's currently in pending and ends in a couple of days). I'm considering trying Sky Stream again on a rolling monthly contract so I was wondering if the community could help with any answers to these questions please:

1. Would I be able to use my original puck? Then, if I cancelled the rolling monthly contract to efffectivly pause the service, I would not have to return the puck and could then restart it (taking out a new rolling contract) at a later date.

2. Assuming I could do the above, is the current Sky Stream Puck any better than the one I have from 2022? I thinkI read somewhere that it is a different puck now but that it may not be any better (performance and features) than the original.

3. The base price for the rolling contract is on offer for £25 (reduced from £35). Is £25 the price for the first month and from month 2 it goes up to £35 or is it £25 for the first 24 months (plus annual CPI increases) and then it goes up? I actually plan on using it on the rolling contract for a few months and if I get on OK with it I'll switch to a normal 24 month contract to get the lower price)

Cheers.

You're probably better off selling your original puck and getting a new one loaned to you from Sky. I sold mine and got £80 for it on eBay (that was a while ago though and their value has dropped.) A new loaned one will at least be easier for Sky to activate on your account and they'll be able to swap it if there are any hardware issues as your original one will now be out of warranty.

The newer puck allegedly has better thermal control which helps when the puck is streaming live high bit-rate low latency UHD content from Sport channels, but Sky have been pretty quiet about this. Most people seem to get on fine with the original puck so it's not a deal breaker. There's no way of specifying which puck you are supplied with anyway.

If you took out a 31 day rolling contract on Ultimate TV then it would remain £25pm for however long you subscribe for, or until one of Sky's regular annual price increases. After 24 months it would revert to whatever the standard monthly price is at that time.

As you've had Stream before, Sky might not actually let you have the £25pm deal as it's meant for new customers so you may have to negotiate with them.

Re: Sky Stream on rolling contract using original puck (pre Feb 23)

I own a puck and have dipped in and out 3 times on rolling contracts.

First two times it was renewed at full price, third time I got a rolling contract with a discounted price for 24 months.

The longest it has been offline is 3 months and it has always managed to get software updates when reconnected.

It seems to be able to do that without a subscription, so maybe plug it in and see if it does so automatically and also update the apps.

The issue with @BenJoBanjo's idea is that you'd have to return the puck every time you wanted to take a break, which for me would be impossible as when my contract ends I fly out of the country the next day and there is nobody to sent it back.

Re: Sky Stream on rolling contract using original puck (pre Feb 23)

Thanks for the helpful replies.

As it happens I got the usual retention phone calls from Sky as my cancellation was due to be completed today and (eventually) managed to get a deal to stick with my Sky Q for another 24 months that I was happy with.

However, they did confirm that I could create a separate Sky account (at the same address) so that I could take out a rolling monthly Sky Stream account to try it out for a few months at the discounted rate. Alothough it's not possible to hve both Sky Q and Stream on the same Sky account, which is understandable I guess. So I might do that later in the year and see how I get on and run Sky Q and Stream side by side. If I like Stream I can switch from Q to Stream on contract mid contract.  Hopefully I'll be able to do that with my existing puck. I might try plugging it in and seeing if it says anything about activating it with a new account.

As far as we know, it's never been possible to have two Sky accounts at the same address.

@improdia-mark  You have been wrongly advised that is definitely not possible sky's system will block a second tv account being created at the same address whilst there is already an active tv account at the address

@SKY1992bf Thanks for confirming that. Hey ho, never mind. Bit of a shame though.
