With the release of QS25 you will find that you can set many more individual recordings, compared to before.  There will always be exceptions, ie BBC content. Cloud recordings will surface when on demand is not available and where we have agreed rights with the relevant third party, to have a cloud recording stored for their content.

Thanks

As i've commented on in a couple of other threads, I've certainly found this to be the case over the past few weeks since i've been on QS25.

Have you noticed if any cloud recorded ITV content allows the adverts to be fast forwarded with the ad-skipping pack?

The EE TV Pro box in IP mode prevents ads on recordings from being fast forwarded, even if the customer has ITVX Premium.

Indeed it does. I was surprised that the playlisted ITV show was using a cloud recording from the ITV 1 broadcast, as opposed to opening within the ITV X app for a show last week.

I was able to fast forward the ads using the FF button and also using the vocie search of "fast forward x minutes".

Re: Sky Stream hard drive for Sky Q phase out?

Thank you all for the informative and interesting replies.

Cloud recording seems promising assuming the picture and sound playback is of the same format / standard as the original broadcast. It should also appears less clunky if the external apps don't fire up and the programme just plays. Also useful if the availability of playback is more immediate than via the external apps.

This sounds promising. Is there an ETA on when QS25 will be rolled out?

@Exiled-in-HH What do you classify as 'local storage" 🧐

One thing to note is that not all shows can/will be cloud recorded. What has happened in the QS25 update is that it does seem to be available for more shows than it previously was, so likely Sky have sorted out a bunch of legal "stuff" with a number of broadcasters and rights holders to expand the shows they can take cloud recordings of.

Re: Sky Stream hard drive for Sky Q phase out?

I think one thing Sky could do to help with this is to just be super upfront about what services a show is available on at a glance.

That way you can:-

a. Know if it's available to watch via Sky's service (record or on-demand)

b. It's on any services you do actually have

Something like this somewhere in the UI would probably do the trick..

Available On.png

That way it avoids the problem of only finding out when it's too late.

And likewise to be up-front about shows which are only for live viewing.

Re: Sky Stream hard drive for Sky Q phase out?

Sky q was always future-proofed for IP channels. I believe the version in the German/Italy/Austria sky markets had the functionality, and the specifications of the UK box are almost identical. Perhaps Sky decided to ditch Q to ensure maximum compatibility with all streaming services and maintain its grip on data mining and your viewing habits. Possibly q was not as lucrative in that regard

Re: Sky Stream hard drive for Sky Q phase out?

SkyQ boxes cost significantly more than Sky Pucks to manufacture ... the HDD being a significant part of that additional cost🤔

Ironically, 1TB spinning rust drives won't have been in volume production for quite a while: that size was obsolete in PCs even before SSDs became common.
