Sky Stream Remote Control Issues

Hey guys,

Hoping someone here can help restore some sanity in the loquat household before I lose what little hair I have left. Sky Stream package arrived yesterday.

SET-UP: Everything going smoothly - until I tried to pull out the 'circuit breaker'.  It tore!! Cue 3 or 4 of the most frustrating hours I have ever had to endure trying to remove the small piece of flimsy paper still inside the unit. Tried everything according to the supplied instructions. What an absolute joke. There was no way that back was just going to 'slide off'. Life, it seems, is not that simple.

In the end, I had to admit defeat. That meant forcing it open - with two blunt knives no less. Eventually, I managed to prize it open, and guess what? That's right, I still couldn't remove that wretched piece of paper. It was firmly lodged inside what looks like a sealed unit, with no access to the battery chamber either. How was the back ever supposed to slide off? What the frack Sky? Is this some kind of practical joke you're perpetrating on new customers? Coz if so, it ain't funny, and I swear, I'm just an expletive away from terminating my contract.

So, form for a replacement remote duly completed. But here's my question. What's to prevent the same thing from happening all over again? Is it possible to persuade someone at Sky to remove that booby-trapped piece of worthless junk before sending out my replacement RC unit?

Yes, it's quite difficult to remove the back of the remote for the first time. It helps to use a rubber or latex glove to gain a bit of extra grip while holding the remote face down in the palm of one hand. Use the thumb of the gloved hand to slide the back in the direction of the arrow. It will slide a few millimetres, then you can lift it off.

Use a small scewdriver to lever the battery out of it's holder if you can't do it with your finger.

As in post above.

Some have found using some rubber gloves has helped, if you find your remote cover a tad stiff.

Once the cover is open, you will need to remove the batteries to pull out the remainder of the paper.

The batteries should flick out, but maybe as above, use a small screwdriver or kitchen tongs to ease them out of their compartment.

You need to open the cover as shown in the Sky help here;

  1. Remove the back cover of the remote by sliding the cover down. Follow the direction of the small arrow symbol on the back of the remote.

2. Insert batteries as shown, ensuring correct orientation.

3. Slide the back cover back into place, pressing firmly to close it.

Re: Sky Stream Remote Control Issues

Thx for the tips guys. Despite a mullered remote, I finally managed the 'slide trick,' and voila!!, I managed to extract the remains of the offending ribbon.

The remote now works - at least, just about enough to allow me to get thru the set-up process. To control the tv, I have to hold down/press the key pad onto the base, but hopefully that too will be resolved if/when I get a replacement remote.

Thx again for the help.
