Sky Stream Picture settings with Netflix Premium

Hi,I watch Tv picture set to 1080i and let my Tv upscale to 4k.

When I watch UHD content on Netflix ( I subscribe to Netflix Premium) the TV puck does not switch output 2160p. Content is downgraded to 1080i but interestingly any Dolby Atmos content is output to my Sonos Beam 2.I get HD picture with Atmos. I have picture settings for apps set to auto. Any solutions welcome.

Sky Stream will output the resolution you have set so if you set 1080i your TV will upscale from that.  Sky Stream will not override what you have set it to so basically you will get 1080i upscaled to UHD by your TV.  I find the Sky Stream is great being set to 2160p as it outputs at 36bit.

So no auto switching for UHD output on apps. What is the point of Auto picture settings for apps?

Re: Sky Stream Picture settings with Netflix Premium

I presume if thr main output is set lower it can't go

any higher than what it's set to. Why don't you set stream to 4k if your tv supports it? The picture must be better in 4k native than the tv upscaling?

Re: Sky Stream Picture settings with Netflix Premium

Why not just set your Puck output to 2160 and let the puck handle the upscaling and you'll get your Netflix Premium

It's not even upscaling is it? If the puck is set to 2160 then whatever will stream at 2160.

Re: Sky Stream Picture settings with Netflix Premium

I want the tv to upscale Tv channels which are broadcast in 1080i. And I would like Netflix to stream in 4k without having to change settings. If that cant be done I will set to 2160p.

I still dont see point of app picture settings.

The only setting which affects apps only is judder reduction which switches output of the puck from 50 to 60Hz.
The puck, like most streaming devices, will only output one resolution, it won't switch accordingly. 2160P is best if you watch a lot of UHD content. 1080i is best if you watch a lot of live or regular HD content. Native 1080i output for this content is excellent from a puck. I found that my 4K TV was better at upscaling than the puck, but this can differ depending on your TV.

If you set the puck to 2160 it'll still show those that are only broadcast in 1080i in 1080i.

Incorrect.
Setting the puck to 2160P makes the puck upscale 1080i to 2160P.

Setting the puck to 1080i makes your 4K TV do the upscaling to 2160P.

There may be minor differences in image clarity depending on how good your TV is at upscaling.

You learn something new every day. What about sky channels though? Are they 1080i? You've then also got uhd sports and movies. Changing puck will be a pain, get where this is coming from now. Should have an option to turn upscaling off, development request time? Would imagine most tvs will be better than puck, can't imagine sky have put that much money into puck.

All channels on the EPG are 1080i apart from the Sky Sports UHD channels which are 2160P.

On demand movies can be viewed in 2160P but the Movie Channels only stream live in 1080i.

If you pay for UHD/Atmos on a Stream puck then you're best off leaving it at 2160P. It's a pretty decent upscaler IMHO, and when I compared the output with my TV doing the upscale, the difference was barely noticeable. You'd have to really know what to look for to spot the difference on most 1080i content.
