Puck fails to boot

Hello all,

I'm having issues with one of my Pucks (I have two).  Most days (six out of seven) it won't start up using the remote, I have to switch the power supply off then on.  One up and running it is fine for the rest of the time.  My other puck is the opposite - it almost always comes on quickly with the Home button on the remote.

It's connected by ethernet, wifi turned off, also I have it set to never shut down.  I have tried changing the power supply with my other puck without success.  It's been like this for many months now, so not a temporary issue.

Sky OS 1.3, Build version QS037.045.02P

Can anyone help with this please?  Or Maybe a Sky representative?

Many thanks, Gordon.

Re: Puck fails to boot

I know you've changed the power supply, but have you actually swapped pucks? If the iffy puck continues to play up it will at least confirm it's the puck and not the location.

Re: Puck fails to boot

Thanks for your suggestion.

Both pucks are connected by Ethernet and work well once booted up, so I can't think why it would be the location - but it's easy to swap them so I'll give it a try 🤞

Re: Puck fails to boot

I know it's pretty unlikely, but at least it rules out the possibility and helps if you need to contact Sky for a replacement.

Re: Puck fails to boot

Right, I've tried with the pucks swapped for a week or so now, the faulty puck is still faulty.

It won't boot up most days and sometimes needs the power turned off and on a second time before it works.  It's really annoying.

I'm holding back from ringing sky as I will get 30 minutes of someone working through a check list trying everything under the sun before they will accept it's faulty - not something to look forward to 😂.

If anyone has any suggestions please before I give up, thanks.

Re: Puck fails to boot

Another development yesterday and again today.  After unplugging the power and reconnecting the puck isn't booting up in the normal way, the little light flashes red and orange alternately then it eventually comes on screen saying "let's get the internet connected ", the Ethernet cable is plugged in but it says no internet, swapped the cable at the router end into a different socket - no difference.  So I connect it by Wi-Fi and it downloads new software (remember it did this the same yesterday).  Then it is working, so now I've unplugged the Ethernet cable.  Also worth noting is that the other puck worked perfectly in this location using the same Ethernet cable.

TBH I feel like just canceling my subscription as it's a real pain.

Re: Puck fails to boot

I've gone with Now, not so much because of the puck, (Sky's OS is pretty good). But at the end of the day it's far more stable running from an app, and Whole Home isn't required which is a bonus.
