@carpfisher42

By default on Glass/Stream the PIN is the last four digits of the telephone number which you gave Sky when you ordered.

Re: Pin Number

I tried that today when my Sky stream suddenly asked me for a pin.   It didnt work but I restarted the TV and it cleared the pin.  I find it annoying when pins are added whithout being asked for when you have no kids its not needed.

The sky system is very poor especially as Ive paid extra for this non service.

Mandatory Daytime Protection is required by the Broadcasting Code when channels carry content certified as 12 or above in daytime hours.  There's no exemption in the legislation for child-free households.

Re: Pin Number

I can confirm it's only Sky that thinks I'm not a adult
 I am a OAP and could do without random pins being applied to ordinary TV shows.
 I was never asked for a pin on BT so your statement is clearly nonsense

Re: Pin Number

@Nveg No @TimmyBGood is absolutely right on this , see in order for sky to be able to brodcast\stream anything that is rated over 12 years of age they have to emply a Pin system , its government legislation , i can remember it back in the old "Sky Digital" days at the very leased (cant remember for analogue it was to long ago) , without it they would have to wait untill after the watershed to show anything other that 12 rated movies & below so the Pin is there so we can all enjoy viewing weather its via dish or on demad any rating of movie at any time of the day & also sky would not "randomise" your pin , only you can change or request a change of pin.

 Check the Ai answer it should explain it in depth.

This topic has been raised numerous times over many years: Mandatory Daytime Protection is a fact, as that rather definitive statement from Ofcom I linked to above demonstrates.

Yes, Sky sometimes over-applies the MDP PIN protection: I suspect a television executive has never been fired for not rendering their employer liable for a huge fine.

Note however that because the underpinning legislation is now antique it only covers entities regulated as 'broadcasters' and this means streaming-only platforms have no concept of a watershed: this clear anomaly is currently under review.
