No UHD via puck for disney plus

Hi,

Moved to Sky Stream (and a very poor/half baked product at that).  One current issue is I have with UHD LG TV is that the TV own Disney app works fine sound/picture all correct dolby atmos/hdr.  However,  Sky puck's own Disney app does not show a picture in UHD (does ok if set to HD in puck) only sound, despite UHD set in settings on puck.  I am assuming as I do not pay for Sky Atmos/UHD add on that it will not enable the UHD on the puck itself to allow UHD watching in built in apps, so will just have to use the TV app instead, or is it something else?

Thanks,

Robbie

I worked it out, so the HDMI input setting on the TV also needed to be set, only when viewing the input (sky stream), on the TV this is Settings menu, General -> External Devices -> HDMI Deep Colour -> Change to 4K and it now works :).

@Robbie_

The UHD/Atmos pack for Sky Stream has no effect on Disney+ so you should be getting UHD from it.

One thing to note is that all UHD content on Disney+ has HDR so you need to be using a high speed HDMI cable and have Deep Colour or Enhanced (or whatever it's called on your particular TV model) turned on in the settings to allow HDR.

If you don't have your settings correct for the HDMI port on your TV that Stream is connected to then Disney+ will default to HD, even when the puck is set to output UHD.

Subtitle issues on Sky Puck

Hi,

Regarding subtitles on Sky Stream puck (really a massive downgrade on watchability/functionality from Sky Q).  I need subtitles for accessibility and there are many issues (still!) here:

1. Playlist - Watching from Start (not BBC iPlayer) subtitles either do not work properly are ahead of the program or behind the program and fast forwarding breaks it and stops showing.

2. Adding programs to the Playlist - Using "+" to add programs does not add programs with HD, not with subtitles, or even a sign language program, for example programs on Gold, Channel 4.  Just completely random and ridiculous sometimes.

3.  Channel 4 catchup app - Enable subtitles watch the program, fast forward ads and subtitles disappears so have to reenable it again, happens every fast forward.

4. Read that subtitles are an issue in UHD - If I add the addon UHD/Atmos will I loose all subtitle functionaltiy, will it not work in any UHD program etc.

Note I have done multiple reboots/refresh etc, usual stuff.

Thanks,

Robbie

Re: No UHD via puck for disney plus

HI , the native Disney app through stream does support UHD / ATMOS, make sure your picture settings are set to Auto, under picture setting > default steaming format > set to auto.

you dont need the extra sub for UHD/ATMOs to work on netflix / Apply tv / disney / Prime

Re: No UHD via puck for disney plus

Thanks your your reply, it does not work with Auto or set to UHD, Disney app show program is UHD but no picture only sound.  Disney app works fine in TV app.  TV is all set up to us HDR in all inputs.

Re: No UHD via puck for disney plus

hi @Robbie_  ok i would suggest then its as @UnrealityTV  said, and a setting on you TV , not allowing the stream puck / app to sense your TV can suppoort atmos / HDR.

have you checked you TV settings for the HDMI like @UnrealityTV  mentioned.

I have an LG C1 and once set correctly and after a reset of the puck after changing the settings the Puck/app picks up that my TV supports HDR / ATMOS

the deepcolour setting does ring a bell when i set everything up, i can check my settings later but not home till this evening.

Give both your TV and the puck a reboot. Turn both off at the wall for a minute to allow a new HDMI handshake to take place. Are you using the HDMI cable which came with the puck?

Also make sure the puck is set to output 2160P in the video settings.

Re: No UHD via puck for disney plus

Hi @UnrealityTV, used the HDMI that came with LG G1 connected to LG TV via soundbar, via earc correctly. Used Sky puck supplied HDMI goes into Soundbar (hdmi in).  Puck was set to 2160P and no changes still same problem.

Your soundbar probably doesn't allow HDR pass-through then.

Try connecting the puck directly to the TV instead, or make sure the HDMI cable connecting the soundbar to the TV is a high-speed cable.

Typically the issue is that the UHD release of content carried by Sky just doesn't have a subtitle option.

Subtitles will be there on the HD release.

Re: No UHD via puck for disney plus

All cables are high speed ( I assume puck supplied one is), LG G1 and TV LG G3 are both designed to work together and passthough signals etc.  I have not tried puck direct to TV yet though, will do a little more investigations, appreciate your help.

I just had a look at the manual for the G1 soundbar online and it's quite vague about what it will and won't pass-through. It states 4K passthrough but nothing much specific beyond that.

Your best bet would be to connect the puck direct to the TV and use eARC. You hopefully won't experience any lip-sync issues.

Re: No UHD via puck for disney plus

@M3rk yes Deep colour setting was the answer, I could not change it unless viewing HDMI input for Sky Stream and then changed it to 4K.  Thanks for triggering the answer :).
