Re: New Sky OS 2.0

The only thing I've seen that needs sorted is the searching function whilst watching content. You can't smoothly scroll through time to find where you want to be, it jumps in chunks of time. Very annoying when watching racing like F1. The old OS allowed this so why change?

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

Here's another niggle I found:

celebrity traitors... the new episode turned up on my cw rail when it started on BBC1. I was 10 mins late and wanted to start watching on delay. Went to the show on cw and hit play....technical error. Try later.

it happened twice. Only way to start the programme is to go into iplayer directly and watch from there.

when it's on cw it should start playing if you hit select. It did under OS 1.3

Re: New Sky OS

Is there anyway of getting rid of this  awful system! It's absolutely rubbish, it's constantly glitching doesn't do what it meant to, crashes all the time. You need to suspend it until you improve it a lot more, it's so bad if I can't go back to old system I may just have to leave sky.

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

Find the SkyOS trial app in the app section and click 'leave trial'.

it hasn't been released to the general box population

Re: New Sky OS

Hi,

Ive lost standard HD content on my Sky Stream service. It keeps saying 'The Content you selected is UHD and can't be played on this device.' I don't have access to any channels on the TV guide because of this. It was playing fine last night and is having real difficulty just playing normal TV channels- BBC 1 etc.

The issues are on the mini puck being used on a Standard HD TV.

Any reason why?

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

Is it just me or has the update trial made an already clunky system worse? I now have to click more times to get to my favourite shows. When watching a programme that has already started I now have to watch 2 min of it while navigating the hidden menu to find start from beginning, and when fast forwarding through the breaks the screen either freezes, jumps backward or worst of all jumps to live. The disparity of sound volumes and brightness between programmes and ad breaks is 10x worse now too

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

Hi All
If Sky's new OS 2.0 doesn't mend issues with the Sky puck being sluggish and having lag on apps, then I think they will be forced to launch a new faster Sky Puck to kelp up with it's rivals.
Here are a few ldeas I've got.

Ideals Next-Gen Sky Puck

  • Wi-Fi 6 / 7 Support: This is critical for live streaming. Newer Wi-Fi standards open up the clean 6GHz wireless band. This eliminates interference from your neighbors' internet and prevents the dreaded spinning loading wheel when you try to watch 4K HDR content.
  • Bluetooth for Headphones: A massive missing feature on the current puck. Adding native Bluetooth would finally let you watch movies, sports, or late-night TV at high volume without waking up the rest of the house.
  • Fast Gigabit Ethernet Port: The current puck only has a slow 100Mbps port. Upgrading to a fast Gigabit Ethernet port ensures an ultra-stable, lightning-fast wired connection that easily handles high-bitrate 4K streams and future 8K broadcasts.
  • A Choice of Colours: Borrowing from the successful Sky Glass playbook, offering the puck in matching custom colors (like Ocean Blue, Racing Green, or Anthracite Black) would let the box blend beautifully into any home setup rather than looking like a generic black plastic brick.
If Sky OS 2.0 rolls out and fails to fix the lag on the old hardware, a premium puck with these exact features is exactly what Sky will need to stay competitive against Apple and Amazon.

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

@Daz7 the new sky rollout is happening hopefully before the end of the year but could be longer but I can't wait to see new features

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

@Daz7 You know that the sky stream puck is effectively the box that is used in America by Comcast? Any new sky stream box will be a copy of what is produced there. The sky stream box was produced for Xfinity (Comcast) and effectively just given a new outer share. Sky are pulling in resources on both the staff that produce hardware and the hardware itself. All new tech will be built between sky and Comcast (Xfinity) on a shared platform. The days of sky making their own kit are over

100Mbs ethernet is adequate for 8K streaming in the (extremely unlikely) event this ever arrives: it's several times more speed than 4K will ever require.

However I suspect 100Mbs ports will simply disappear from equipment specification when no-one manufactures such silicon any more.

Yes, I do not think think there actually is a UK smart TV or for that one you can buy anywhere as a home customer that has more than a 100Mbps Ethernet port, or why on earth it would need that with any streaming service offering.

As above, with silicon prices, it would most probably add quite a cost to a device.

The Sky Stream pucks as do all the Sky Glass TVs with all the chipsets, offer wifi6 capability =

  • WiFi 6 802.11 b/g/n/ac/ax

Not really seeing any need or benefit for it yet to have dedicated wifi 7 capability.

Why exactly did you opt in to a beta version when it's primarily to iron out bugs prior to general release?, I'd of thought if you weren't prepared for issues then leave it alone until it's considered a stable version.
