Move from Sky Stream to Sky Q

Is it possible to move from sky stream to sky q?

I have had stream in for about 6 months.

If I can't get sky q, I will move to virgin so programs can recorded on the box.

Yes.

You need to speak to Sky though and explain why. If you are suffering from issues with the Sky Stream service then you need to have shown that you have made some effort to rectify them.

Quality and speed of broadband connection is essential to get any form of reliable Sky Stream service so if you cannot provide this then it would be better to switch to Sky Q, but you will need to discuss this with Sky and follow their troubleshooting first.

I'd observe that Virgin is also moving away from local recording: its Stream/Flex hardware doesn't have a hard drive.
