Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Just a crazy idea, but when I first had my puck there was a known issue of it sending 'duff' information back along the HDMI. Some people even got HDMI return blockers from Sky.

https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-Stream/Is-it-even-possible-the-Puck-is-doing-this-via-HDMI/m-p/4732...

If its still sending junk information, that might explain the fact that only some people have the issue, as it will depend how their systems deal with the junk data.

@Skull+Treaty It's a forum you're quite at liberty to say that your Stream is working properly. However without people stating exactly how the Stream is connected, ie, AVR, soundbar or simply the TV's built in speakers then we are just dancing in the dark.

My connection was Stream/ATV Gen 4/4K blu ray player>Denon AVR-X6500>Panasonic 65'' OLED TV.

Two work perfectly in that configuration, Stream on the other hand was a nightmare. Sky, certainly up to September last, were more than happy to blame the failings on the connected equipment. Now they do seem to have admitted and have had some success, according the some, with the roll out of the latest firmware updates. It would be interesting if those who have been successful would list their equipment.

It would not be too unusual for HDMI to still have handshake issues even after updates as some can work against the connections. By fixing one issue it could easily lead to problems with other connections. For years this plagued Arcam AVRs.

I never watch tennis. As a test just went to TNT 4. Action is over but talk from studio is fine.

That's why I list my basic av equipment in my signature. Would be good practice for all to do that I agree.

@Littletaffia

I dont recall my post saying my Stream worked properly - I thought I had pointed out that I had/have issues.

Your set-up is a similar setup to mine, Stream into a Marantz Cinema AVR then to an LG 4K display. Stream doesn't behave as well as Sky Q did or as any other streaming device also connected to the AVR.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Sorry @Paul+Dray 🥲I was just frustrated once again with the issue and that it's still going on. I managed to fixed it by restarting the puck.

lnteresting about the junk info. How does this blocker work?

I had to get an HDMI CEC blocker for my puck back in 2022. It basically was sending spurious CEC command signals all the time along the HDMI connection, even when the puck was in standby. These commands basically disrupted the control of all other devices connected to my TV and amp, preventing them turning all equipment on with a single button push.

It was incredibly frustrating and Sky admitted to me that it was a fault with the puck and re-imbursed me the cost of the blocker.

I've since got rid of the puck though as it did nothing to help with the random lip sync issues and other irritations I had with it.

@Paul+Dray This is no exaggeration DH! there are 104 pages on this our discussion alone, there are 182 discussion groups apart from this one, with lip sync in the title going back the last 12 months, there are 28 discussion groups this month! Type in sound and it comes up 1000 discussion groups in the last 12 months, 150 in the last month!.... all headlined issues!

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Seen some comments that HDMI cables may be an issue, I'm using the ones that came with the pucks, I have to have my settings at PCM stereo which reduces the amount of time I get lip sync problems but I still get them, if I set to auto or Dolby lip sync will gradually start and get worse.. I'm also getting issues now where the sound keeps stalling in adverts. Yet another complaint going in.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Hi everyone,

Well, after the lip sync issues

The freezing issue

The random opening of apps

The having to factory reset every other day

The lagging

The constant 'wait for programme to load'

The screen flickering

Sky have agreed to cancel my contract without penalty.

Apple TV+ now purchased and what a difference!!! Everything just works.

I wish those that are persevering the very best of luck.

That DH! Comment I hope better not mean what I think it means

What I said was correct. You were wrong. You said 1000's of complaints on this discussion alone.

If you want to now backtrack and say every mention of the word 'sound' across the entire forum, well firstly that's illogical and secondly you'll find once again it's the same familiar user names.
