Re: Is sky stream as good as sky stream
@ChrisEB this is exactly my point. It appears a constant stable connection is better than a faster one that fluctuates. With Sky when I do a speed test the speed sits around the same speed the whole test, whereas when I was with Virgin the speeds would flucuate wildly from as low as 50mbps to 600mbps.

Re: Is sky stream as good as sky stream
I imagine when it works flawlessly and consistently it's great. Sadly, it's dreadful for me.

Re: Is sky stream as good as sky stream
Even with a fast FTTP connection I'd suggest/recommend dumping the ISP provided routers that are mostly cheaply produced tat.

I would agree, however, if I correctly recall you lose your voice line.

Phone line? If that's what you mean I haven't had a landline in years, although I accept some people still prefer a landline, even with your own router you can still have a VOIP line if you require one.

When you have elderly parents and the poxy router goes down or there's a fibee issue at the exchange - you want a land line. I, like many do not have a mobile signal on any of the 4 main carriers.

A high spec router and gigabit fibre still don't guarantee a smooth Sky Stream experience. I tried every permutation of connection, Ethernet, WiFi (different channels & frequencies) and even tethering to different 4G & 5G data services. None of them gave me as solid or reliable a service as I had on Sky Q. There was always a sound glitch, lip sync or picture disturbance of some kind every single day.

Well I have a decent router, Asus BE92U and 1Gb FTTP and Stream is pretty much flawless apart from the odd glitch. After all no TV delivery system is perfect, even Q which has been available now for 9 years. Take a look at the issues some have on the Q forum.

And by way of perspective, I have a bog standard ISP provided router, connecting at 68Mbps. My Glass tv and Puck are both connected over wifi and perform very well - no worse than Sky Q & Mini which preceded them.

Yes, I know that. It's pointless comparing yours with mine - no two experiences of Sky Stream are the same.
We're comparing our own individual experiences. My experience of Sky Q was vastly superior to Sky Stream in terms of the service being stable and reliable. I perhaps had to reboot my single Q box maybe twice in 4 years, whereas my single Stream puck required maybe 50 reboots in under a year.
A single Q box, installed properly by Sky, is much more likely to perform well than a single Stream puck installed by a customer, connected to a broadband network which Sky have no control over. It's as simple as that.

Re: Is sky stream as good as sky stream
I have a faultless sky 150mbps. My Stream has no issues with connection or speed. It just has poorly written software which even when working as designed, is not a great system. Virgin Media has a far superior system, but you have to pay more for it. I'll be switching back.
+ Stream monetises everything it possibly can.

Re: Is sky stream as good as sky stream
@PortlandBill I have to I totally disagree with your comments saying VM has a far superior system.
I find Stream and Sky so much better in many ways.
Picture quality on Stream is better than I achieved with my V6 box and I find the whole Stream interface and menus system so much better and cleaner than VM.
OK broadband speeds aren't as fast, but I get a much more stable connection with Sky.
