From Sky Q to Sky Puck picture Quality

Just moved from Sky Q to Sky Puck viewing on a Sony Bravia 85" with full fibre and hardwired and the picture is awful, any suggestions and it's not TV related as the apps are really good

Depends what you're watching really, and the native resolution. What exactly makes it awful?
Some upscaled HD & some UHD content can be overly compressed & look quite nasty but a lot of Sky's UHD content can look excellent, particularly with HLG HDR.

Try setting the puck video output to 1080i, the native HD resolution for most live channels & see if your TV upscales better than the puck. Only set it to 2160P when watching native UHD content.

Something is possibly  wrong with your TV settings, despite you thinking it may be the Sky Stream.

Are you sure you have turned off all the motion smoothing and the like options. Some of those can affect one type of format, (linear HD  v UHD/HDR v apps) but not so noticeable if at all on others.

Do remember from some older posts on here for some of the range for the larger Sony screens, that their ambient light is very 'mirror like' with reflective screens and cause some strange effects at times. Viewing within a much darker environment was and some settings changes off was the only cure.

This may not be the case for your display, but hopefully other customers on here with a Sony TV can come on to this thread and offer some guidance with all of the above.

If I recall, Sony filmmaker mode is generally the best generic setting, that turns off a lot of the motion smoothing and the like, but there is probably some more options to check.

Sky Stream is a very noticeable uplift in picture quality from Sky Q across the various linear channels outputs in HD and especially for UHD/HDR and Apps.

Have not seen any linear channels that have a poorer  quality in my 18+ months of using Sky Stream on my mid range to high end TVs that I view my Sky Stream pucks on. Or on other mid range or high end TVs from others I have viewed, who have set up their TVs and environment correctly.

You should for that TV for getting the best quality for UHD/HDR and a smooth plane across the linear channels and differing app formats, set the Sky Stream puck to 2160p. That format does also do some more generic adjustments especially when using a better range display.

Do make sure when you have made that change to do a settings restart of your Sky Stream box and also we would recommend a repower of your TV.
