A glance round this forum will reveal that you are not alone. These remotes are pretty flaky - faulty ones seem to be being reported multiple times a day at the moment.

If that doesn't work, try giving it a firm twist with both hands (as if wringing out a towel) - this can sometimes tweak the contacts into a functional position. If it still doesn't work, ring Sky and ask for a replacement.
