Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
Ah that's a shame. Fingers crossed for a Sky Stream 2.0!

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
What power mode do people use ?
I mean the standby power feature?
I noticed that my Atomos setup worked better after restarting it a few times.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
@Dazzasky Dolby Atmos is compressed when streaming it just depends on the extent of compression that is being used by the streaming platform.
All Pass-Through is doing is passing the audio stream through and allowing your device to control which Codec to use for the audio processing, but you're not getting an uncompressed stream....

Passthrough is still better than Dolby Digital Plus, that's just fact. If your happy to use Dolby Digital Plus then that's good for you. Personally I would rather the passthrough option on Stream be fixed. Fortunately there's not too many programmes on Sky that I haven't seen that are showing with a Dolby Atmos sound track.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
I go Dolby Digital+ to the TV and then the TV is set to Pass-Through to the soundbar via eARC. It works perfectly with no audio drops and no noticeable difference in quality when I was set Pass-Through to Pass-Through....

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
Hi Daniel,
Just to let you know this issue still persists in May 2025. I am on my second puck and the random drop outs still persists at random intervals
1 LG OLED G2 55inch 4K Smart TV 2022.
2 Sonos ARC soundbar.
3 UHD Content with Atmos from any SKY Stream source.
4 Apple TV+ App unusable
5 Every day when in use.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
Still happening on my Puck, most noticeable in Apple TV, specifically tonight on Long Way Home, but it happens on any content and drops for around 2 seconds.
Sonos beam with Sony tv, puck and tv set to pass through, also doesn't with sound set to Dolby digital plus, doesn't on PCM, but that entirely defeats the purpose of paying extra for ultrahd atmos enablement!

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
Might be tempting fate, but we've not seen/heard any dropouts over the past 3 weeks or so. That's across all streaming platforms using the apps from the puck. And we may have missed it, but as far as we can see there have been no software updates to the puck. Our setup remains unchanged, still Sonos Arc/LG G4. Go figure...

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
Have my Sky Stream on wired connection with wireless turned off and puck restarted I thought I had finally fixed it until last night. After watching "Dept-Q" on Nexflix for a couple of hours it started, intermittent black screen and audio drop outs. Why is this so difficult ? My smart TV works flawlessly my Sky Glass works without issue Apple TV box is a dream all sharing the same wireless connection.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
Hi All,
I've posted a lot on this thread so I figured I'd best provide an update as I seem to have fixed the issues I was facing. I have the occasional audio drop now, but nothing like I was getting before. Once or twice a week maybe. Nothing more and picture is fine. Summary is below.
In short, pester Sky to upgrade your speed and router. I now get 500mbps with Sky max router for £27.50pm. Also get the puck as far away from any other electronic device as possible and get it as high from the ground as you can. This has worked for me, though I appreciate it may not not solve everyone else's issues. Good luck.
1) Upgraded to Full Fibre 500 from 150mbps.
2) Altererd the location of the puck. I've cleared it as far away from any electronics as possible and lifted it well away from the ground. I've received advice that Glass, Mirror and Metal are an issue. As is being with 2 feet of any electronics. As is being less than 2 foot from the floor. All these things affect WiFi signal, reflecting or absorbing it.
3) Stream supports Wifi6. Bog standard Sky router doesn't. I've upgraded to Sky WiFi Max, which does. It also promises to penetrate walls better.

I was round at a friend's house this evening and watched a movie on Sky Cinema with Dolby Atmos on his Stream puck. There were three brief drop-outs during the two hour movie. He said it still randomly happens all the time, especially on live UHD/HDR football matches apparently.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
Just came across this whilst having a catch up.
All audio codecs used on Sky Stream are lossy, Dolby Atmos is an object based codec but will have DD+ at it's core.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out
@Floydianslip I've tried explaining this but it falls on deaf ears. To get lossless Atmos you'd need 6-18mbps just for the audio stream alone, let alone video. This is why UHD Blu-ray streams at 128mbps...
To get UHD, HDR and Atmos into a stream at 30mbps-40mbps shows a decent level of compression. Netflix compress even more because they get it down to a 15-20mbps stream.
