There is a very long thread further down the forum about this. There is no fix. Sky/Discovery+ are working on it. Allegedly.

Because there isn't an issue with Sky's Streaming platform per se, the platform is working fine, the issue is with a third party app.

The reason Sky use the "Answer" tag in situations like this is because when a post is flagged as an answer it gets pinned to the top of the thread and is easy to fine. This means that when Sky have updates to provide, they will provide the update, mark is as answer and then its easy for everyone to see. 

 

This thread is over 200 posts so its not really helpful if a Sky post is just lost in the middle of the thread.

Be careful we and certainly not you know that!

 

A few months ago I had a problem with another app Sky blamed the app service provider.  This was was not true it was a Sky streaming issue.

 

Sky should indicate on their website that there is a problem with Discovery plus without going into who is to blame!

Discovery+ is free. You can't get a rebate for something you're not paying for in the first place.

Your services are being provided, you have access to Sky TV and its channels which is the service that Sky is providing. As part of the Sky TV subscription you may have a discovery + subscription included "essentially as free as you have no option to remove it from the packages its part of, but obviously we can all debate whether thats actually free of not 😀".

 

You still can watch Discovery + using your account, its just at the moment not all customers can use the app that is available on Sky stream or Sky Glass. This doesn't stop anyone from continuing to use Discovery + as it can be accessed from tablets, phones, computers, Amazon Fire Sticks, Smart TVs.

You don't have to pay. You need to login with the email address and password you used when you set up Discovery+ through Sky. You don't use your Sky username and password.

Yes none of us 100% know, but what we can do is learn from previous issues that have occured in the past, where apps running on the Sky Streaming platform have had issues.  Typically these issues have taken several days to fix because the various support and tech teams from both Sky and the third party have to interact and work together, which will always slow things down.

 

I  agree that Sky's management of outages and incidents is pretty poor compared with most similar sized companies. I've seen historically when there are known issues and outages, its been posted on the Sky social media channels about the issues,. Most companies will at least provide very high level status updates over their social media channels about issues. However its entirely possible that this process still applies but is purely for issues with Sky's own services rather than if one third party app doesn't work.

 

There is a difference between Sky's Streaming service being down ( which would like prevent customers from loading the Home Page, loading on-demand content, loading live channels etc), than an issue with just one app. What a lot companies do is have different levels of incident management, and in scenarios like this when the issue only affects one app and isn't a complete outage its set as a different priority level and sometimes therefore its treated differently in terms of comms. Unfortunately i know quite a bit about the quite mundane world of incident and service management.

Seems as though my has been lost or taken down.

 

I had a similar problem with a sky streaming app.  I got a rebate from Sky and an apology when I got to talk to a senior Sky executive.
