Cloud recording, is it real?

The only thing stopping me from going over to streaming is this thing about " recording".

I am well aware that there is no such thing as this on Stream or Glass in anything like the conventional sense and for most programs it is unnecessary, I get that.

My issue is on live sports.

i have heard tales that, say, an EPL game can be pre selected and stored 'in the cloud' and watched the following day. Not the highlights, the full game, I have heard this on a number of occasions.

Is any of this real or is it just wishful thinking?

I am trying work out the practicalities of selecting and "recording" a selection of games over the weekend to watch during the week.

Ie, my selection not Skys. How long is it available? etc.

@Lucyliu2 yes, it's real. Recordings will either trigger a cloud recording or push you to the required player for On Demand playback. 

Also, if you notice a new series on the EPG and you've missed the first few episodes, add it to your planner and it'll pull through all available episodes. 

Providing you have a good broadband connection and stable WiFi, it's pretty damn good. We've been on Stream for nearly 4 years and love the flexibility and deep integration of HBO Max, Paramount+ etc...

@Lucyliu2  If you have sky Q, what not take a chance on stream and if you don't like it revert back to Q within your 31 day cooling off period

We actually had glass around 4 years ago. None of the facilities described earlier was possible and the functionality was still pretty poor so we returned to our Q box. A lot of the functionality has improved and there is a lot about Stream that we like, so...

Right now on Q I can record half a dozen or more games over the weekend and watch at my leisure, EPL or EFL games, as long as they are linear.

How close to that level of functionality can I get?

@Lucyliu2 as long as it's on the EPG, you can add it to your planner otherwise, go to the Sky Sports on demand section on the U.I. and you'll be able to find your games. There might be a delay though because of third party rights such as Match of The Day etc

This sports thing is important to me. I am, more or less, housebound so having a selection of games to watch makes a big difference to my day.

Details are important, what decides what does or does not go on the EPG? How long are they available to watch? Can I "record/save" multiple games being played at the same time?

For example, today, Saturday, there are two lunchtime matches, EFL games kicking off at 12:30. They are on linear channels on the satellite so easy for the Q to save both, can I record both on Stream?

Sorry for all the questions, Sky personnel appear to have .little idea of what I am asking, so I am trying to get help from people who actually use the system and have a decent idea of what is and is not possible.

If the game is on one of the main channels such as Main Event, Premier League or Football, you can add it to your planner. How it plays back depends on what digital on demand rights are in play. There may be a delay due to BBC having on demand rights for Highlights on MOTD.

The best way is to try Stream as you get a 30 cool off period and if you don't like it, you can go back to Sky Q...

Bare in mind that Sky's carriage deal with SES runs out in 2029 and Astra aren't replacing the satellite's so it'll all be streaming at some point.

Unfortunately that's not clear, and is entirely under the control of the rights holders.  

While in theory it was always possible for Sky to delete items from the local hard drive of a satellite recorder, in practice they (almost) never did.

I suspect that's 'up to' twelve months though.
