@scouselfc

To make it less infuriating you could change the pin to something like 1111.

As stated many times in these forums, the Broadcasting Code makes no concession for child-free households: this would require Parliamentary legislation to amend.

It's the existence of the Mandatory Daytime Protection PIN which makes it possible for Sky Cinema and other subscription channels to carry post watershed content before 21:00.  By definition you won't find any of that on Freeview during the day because the watershed was invented specifically as content control for terrestrial broadcast.

Hi @scouselfc   Freeview doesn't need it as they have a 9:00pm watershed. The pin protected programmes will not be shown before the watershed so the mandatory daytime protection rules don't apply.

As @MightyQuinn indicates, Freeview by definition doesn't transmit bad words, naughty bits and bloodshed before 21:00 because that's the whole point of the 'watershed'.  Some channels on Sky (Atlantic, Comedy, Documentaries and Cinema) do so when this content is behind an MDP challenge because that's permitted by Ofcom.

In other words, Mandatory Daytime Protection and the annoyance of the PIN challenge enables viewer choice.
