Dad's new remote arrived broken. He has no idea how to use AI and is desperate to speak to a human. I have looked at his acct and guessed he has SkyQ but I have no clue either as the contract tells me nothing. Anyone got through to a human in customer services? I am abroad and when I call it is always engaged

If it's a Sky Q or even an old Sky+ set up he can buy a remote in a larger supermarket or Argos for example.
If he calls Sky, all calls will start automated (aka 'the bot') which may offer him the online help route or try to send him here to the forum. He needs to stay on the line as long as possible and sometimes saying nothing when asked the reason for the call helps being put in the queue for an agent.

Thanks. AI really is so awful for the elderly. too many companies letting so many of the population down. Appreciate the tip!

Current service often actually isn't AI yet though, and so lacks the capability to learn. Previous generation ASR (Automated Speech Recognition) is typically far more limited.

Yeah when they donuse AI it'll be far better.
Albeit also far more energy consuming and expensive.
